    Abstract: A light source capsule (16) having a capsule envelope (18) with a wall (20) defining an enclosed volume (22), and having a sealed portion (24). A light source (26) is positioned in the enclosed volume (22) and has deformable electrical leads-ins (28, 30) extending through the sealed portion (24) of the capsule envelope (18). Stiff lead-in engagers (32) are aligned with the sealed portion (24) of the capsule envelope (18) and are electrically coupled to the electrical leads (28, 30), the lead-in engagers being electrically conductive. The lead-in engagers are fitted through apertures in the base (14) of a lamp envelope (12) to complete a lamp (10).

A lamp envelope (18) receives the light source (12), the envelope (18) being arrayed about a longitudinal axis (20) and having a base (22) generally orthogonal to the longitudinal axis (20). A clip-receiving aperture (24) is formed in the base (22), and at least one clip locator surface (26, 52, 54) is formed in the base (22) adjacent the clip-receiving aperture (24). A clip (28) is positioned in the clip-receiving aperture (24), the clip having a passage (29) shaped and formed to receive the press seal (17) of the light source (12) therein. The clip (28) has at least one first retainer (32) and at least one second retainer (33), the at least one first retainer (32) being shaped and formed to engage the at least one clip locator surface (26, 52, 54), whereby the clip (28) is located within the clip-receiving aperture (24).

The arm holds the lamp capsule in place and electrically connects the lamp capsule to the base. The arm may be a semi-detached central portion of the clip that is bent to be substantially parallel to an axis of the lead.

    Abstract: A lamp (10) has a lamp reflector body (12). The lamp reflector body (12) can be formed of a borosilicate glass or a ceramic material; however, the ceramic material is preferred. The lamp body (12) has a forward end wall (16) with an adjacent circular rim (20) that includes one or more recesses (22) formed in an outer surface (23) thereof. A metal ring (26) preferably formed of aluminum, has a radial ledge (28) and a sidewall (30). A lens (24) is positioned on the forward end wall (26) of the lamp body (12) and is held in place by the radial ledge (28). One or more depressions (22a) are formed with the sidewall (30) and into the recesses (22), thereby retaining the lens (24) on the body (12). Preferably, the number of depressions (22a) is equal to the number of recesses (22). A preferred method of creating the depressions is by electro magnetic forming.

    Abstract: A lamp assembly 10 has a light source 12 having two sealed electrodes 14, 16, sealed in a seal area 17 and defining a lamp axis 18. A concave shell 20 has an internal surface 22 with a reflective surface 23 formed thereon. The concave shell 20 has a neck 24 defining a neck cavity 26 and a reflector axis 28. The neck 24 is provided with an electrical connection 30 and a mechanical support for the light source 12. The shell 20 surrounds the source 12 to reflect light from the source 12 to a field to be illuminated during lamp operation. The source 12 and the reflector surface 23 are oriented with the lamp axis 18 substantially co-axial with the reflector axis 28, and at least a portion of at least one of the electrodes, for example, 14, extends into the neck cavity 26. A zone 32 is formed in the neck cavity 26 for substantially redirecting specular reflection away from the seal area.
