  • Patent number: 7171329
Abstract: A system and method for determining if a first and second device are co-located includes first and second sensors for receiving a sample signal. Each sensor is coupled to the first and second devices. The first and second devices each responsively generate a first and second signal representing the sampled signal. Also included is a transmission device located at the first device for transmitting the first signal to the second device and a receiving device located at the second device for receiving the first signal from the first device. Finally, a signal analysis device determines if the first and second devices are co-located.

  • Publication number: 20060193466
Abstract: A method, microphone module and a system for full-duplex audio system implementing full duplex audio, audio echo cancellation and audio codec. The audio signals from the microphones and to the loudspeakers are encoded to reduce the transmission bandwidth requirement during wired or wireless transmission and decoded when needed for further processing. Each microphone has transceivers to receive signals fed to loudspeakers within the microphone module. An audio echo canceller is installed within each microphone module to generate echo free audio signal for further signal processing. Problems due to the combination of lossy codec and echo cancellation are avoided.

  • Publication number: 20060088173
Abstract: An overhead microphone assembly using multiple unidirectional microphone elements. The microphone assembly is installed overhead, generally above all the desired sound sources and below the undesired sound sources. The signals from these multiple microphone elements are fed into a microphone steering processor which can mix and gate the signals to ensure the best signal/noise ratio. The steering processor may also track the sound source dynamically when such tracking (source locating) is desired. The resulting audio signal from the steering processor may be further processed, such as echo canceling, noise reduction and automatic gain control.

  • Publication number: 20050237378
Abstract: A method and apparatus to insert variable audio delay during video conferencing to achieve conflicting goals of lip-sync and interactive conversation. The amount of audio delay is variable according to the condition of the videoconferencing: long audio delay is inserted to achieve lip-sync between audio and video playback during monologue speech, but minimum or no audio delay is inserted during interactive discussion or argument. Variable audio playback speeds may be used instead of inserting quantum delay to achieve the same result. Various methods and apparatuses to detect the non-interactive mode or interactive modes are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050231586
Abstract: A conference link between devices in teleconference system at one site is disclosed. The linked devices include video conference units, speakerphones or stand-alone loudspeakers. Audio data can be transmitted through the conference link between devices. Audio data processing can be performed in either a video conference unit or a speakerphone. The microphones and loudspeakers in the video conference unit may be eliminated. The microphones and loudspeakers in the speakerphone are used. Other data, for example directories of dialing information, may also be transmitted through the conference link and the data processing may be allocated among processors in devices connected by conference links. The conference link may be wired or wireless, analog or digital. The devices may be linked by conference link in parallel or series. A dialing program can adapt the dialing stream with the locations of the near end site and the dialed far end site.
