  • Patent number: 6219693
Abstract: A file away storage architecture comprises a file system that is distributed across a data processing platform consisting of a host computer coupled to an adapter over a high-speed, low latency interface and an input/output subsystem that is located entirely on the adapter. The distributed nature of the architecture enables implementation of the file system in accordance with a modified client-server computing model; that is, the architecture includes a client file system executing on the host computer and a server file system executing on the adapter.

  • Patent number: 5765193
Abstract: A data storage system includes a multi-tasking processor which manages a write cache to identify adjacent blocks held in the write cache which are to be included in a next write operation, while at the same time handling data transfer requests from a system host. The processor monitors the write cache and when the cache has fewer than a predetermined number of storage locations free, initiates a block-merge task. The processor then determines which block in the write cache is least recently used and, based on virtual block numbers assigned to the data blocks, identifies the blocks in the write cache which are adjacent to the least recently used block and are within the same chunk as that block. The processor maintains a list of these adjacent blocks and the locations in which the blocks are held in the write cache.

  • Patent number: 5115100
Abstract: A method for purifying hemoglobin, mixed with other proteins is described, wherein the mixture is contacted with an ion exchange matrix so that the hemoglobin is adsorbed to it. The matrix is washed to remove unadsorbed components, and the hemoglobin is then selectively eluted using a ligand which specifically binds the hemoglobin causing it to desorb from the matrix. The method can also be used to effect reduction of methemoglobin to hemoglobin on an ion exchange matrix followed by selective elution to achieve purification. The method can also be used to purify methemoglobin.

  • Patent number: 4710488
Abstract: There is described a water soluble compound having a molecular weight of from about 70,000 to about 2,000,000, and having the formula I,(PS)--X--(HB)--Z IwherePS represents a physiologically acceptable polysaccharide of molecular weight from about 2,000 to about 2,000,000,X represents a covalently bonded chemical bridging group,HB represents a haemoglobin residue, andZ represents an oxygen affinity reduced ligand, containing 2 or more phosphate groups. There is also described haemoglobin linked to an oxygen affinity reducing ligand derived from inositol phosphate, and polymers of such linked haemoglobin.Processes for making the compounds, and their formulation and use as oxygen transporting agents, are also described.
