  • Patent number: 9235516
Abstract: Described are techniques for processing data operations. A read request for first data is received at a data storage system. It is determined whether the read request results in a cache hit whereby the first data is stored in a cache of the data storage system, or whether the read request otherwise results in a cache miss. If the read request results in a cache miss, processing is performed to determine determining whether to perform cacheless read processing or deferred caching processing to service the read request. Determining whether to perform cacheless read processing or deferred caching processing is performed in accordance with criteria including a measurement indicating a level of busyness of a back-end component used to retrieve from physical storage any portion of the first data not currently stored in the cache.

  • Patent number: 9216015
Abstract: Less invasive surgical techniques for performing brain surgery are disclosed in which a dilating obturator and cannula assembly is inserted into brain tissue until the obturator tip and cannula are adjacent to the target tissue. The obturator is removed and surgery is performed through the cannula. In preferred embodiments the obturator and cannula are placed using image guidance techniques and systems to coordinate placement with pre-operative surgical planning. A stylet with associated image guidance may be inserted prior to insertion of the obturator and cannula assembly to guide insertion of the obturator and cannula assembly. Surgery preferably is performed using an endoscope partially inserted into the cannula with an image of the target tissue projected onto a monitor. Dilating obturator structures having a rounded or semi-spherical tip and/or an optical window for visualizing brain tissue during expansion are contemplated.

  • Publication number: 20150218470
Abstract: A hot oxygen nozzle and uses thereof in a gasifier, the hot oxygen nozzle comprising an outer-ring spout, a middle-ring spout, an inner-ring spout, and a central spout all sequentially and coaxially disposed, and a cooling system; the gasifier is an entrained-flow gasifier provided with one or more nozzles on a certain plane or a plurality of planes at the top or on the periphery of the gasifier body. The nozzle has a simple structure and is easy to make and maintain. A fuel gas passage is disposed inside the nozzle. Oxygen can be heated by the combustion of fuel gas; and high-temperature and high-speed oxygen can directly ignite carbonaceous materials such as coal water slurry and coke oven gas. The present invention can be applied in a gasifier and then in the final process of synthesis gas preparation.

  • Publication number: 20150159781
Abstract: A plumbing bracket assembly has a plastic main bracket body and a telescoping bracket. The telescoping bracket runs through the main bracket body, and is able to extend to allow the bracket assembly to be secured to structure (such as studs) at both ends, over a range of distances between structure elements. The bracket body is initially able to slide along the telescoping bracket, for desired positioning, but may be locked in place using screws on the main bracket body. Hardware, such a hose clamp and multiple pipe clamps, is initially coupled to the main bracket body. The main bracket body may have a central depression for receiving a relatively large pipe run, and notches or depressions on opposite sides of the central depression, for receiving smaller pipe runs.

  • Publication number: 20140367527
Abstract: A drop-in loop hanger includes a U-shape portion or saddle for receiving an object to be supported, such as a pipe run, and an arm that guides the object to be supported into the U-shape portion. The hanger may include a moving portion that pivots at a hinge to allow entry of the object, then closes off the entryway to help retain the object within the hanger. The hanger may include a threaded portion for receiving a threaded rod, for example to mount the hanger from a ceiling or other structure or objects. The object may be placed in a series of already-installed hangers, for example placing a run of pipe in a series of hangers that support the pipe at different axial locations along the pipe.

  • Publication number: 20140332641
Abstract: An object support includes a clamp, and a base for receiving the clamp, with the clamp securing an object, such as a pipe, to the base. The base may have a trapezoidal shape, with a rectangular bottom surface that is larger than a rectangular top surface. The top surface may have a series of holes for receiving legs of the clamp that are on opposite ends of a linking portion or body of the clamp. The legs are inserted into the base on opposite sides of the object to be clamped, with the clamps legs engaging the holes, and with the linking portion pinning the object to be clamped against the top surface of the base. The legs may have textured surfaces, for example having ridges or threads, that engage the holes to secure the legs to the base.

  • Patent number: 8670706
Abstract: A system and method for optimizing satellite network utilization is disclosed. The method includes delivering a message to a communication device in the satellite network where a confirmation is received from a satellite network gateway that a message is intended for the communication device, scheduling a notification for the communication device at a scheduled time, and at the scheduled time, instructing the satellite network gateway to send the notification to the communication device. The notification causes the communication device to request the message from the network gateway upon receipt of the notification by the communication device. Scheduling may be coordinated within an alert window time period of the communication device when it is listening for notifications. The start time of the alert window time period may be provided by an application gateway, that along with the communication device, receive network time data to remain synchronized.

  • Publication number: 20120208575
Abstract: A method for providing a service function in a telecommunications network is described. The method comprises receiving a message (32) addressed to an addressee subscriber (20) of the telecommunications network. The received message may be an MMS message or an SMS message in a mobile terminated (MT) format and/or may come from a subscriber of a different network. The method further comprises determining whether the body of the received message conforms to a predefined criterion, and, if so, selectively providing the service function. In one example the predefined criterion is a specific syntax for the body of the received message. The processing function may comprise sending a response message to the sender of the received message providing information previously specified by the addressee subscriber. Thus a sending user can obtain the information previously specified by the addressee subscriber by simply sending him a message conforming to the predefined criterion.

  • Patent number: 8230079
Abstract: A method for communicating video data between at least a first host and a second host comprises: identifying, at a server, an address of the first host, to which the second host may communicate video data, and a sequence number expected by a network security system coupled between the first host and the server; and communicating, from the second host to the first host, video data using the address of the first host and the sequence number expected. The method may further comprise: identifying, at the server, an address of the second host, to which the first host may communicate video data, and a second sequence number expected by a network security system coupled between the second host and the server; and communicating, from the first host to the second host, video data using the address of the second host and the second expected sequence number. The second host may be adapted to perform the act of communicating without use of an intermediate server.
