  • Patent number: 11969256
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods for identifying non-penetrating brain injury in a subject, as well as methods for classifying a subject that received a hit to the body that transmitted an impulsive force to the brain as either having a non-penetrating brain injury or not, by analyzing one or more components of frequency-following response (FFR) following administration of an acoustic stimulus to the subject. In addition, the present disclosure provides methods for assessing a subject's recovery from a non-penetrating brain injury. Also disclosed herein are processes and systems for automatically generating acoustic stimuli and processing brain response data to identify non-penetrating brain injuries in subjects.

  • Patent number: 11946819
Abstract: A transient pressure event detection system and method for a pipeline network are disclosed. The system includes a data repository encoding route data on the pipeline network, a data receiver configured to receive timestamped pipeline sensor data from each of a plurality of sensors that are spaced apart in the pipeline network, use the sensor data received to identify a transient pressure event occurrence and the timestamp for the event occurrence's arrival time, determine routes in the pipeline network between the sensors, for each route determine a potential source location in the pipeline network for the transient pressure event, perform a simulated transient event for each potential source location and determine a modelled arrival time of a transient corresponding to the event, compare the timestamp of the event occurrence with the modelled arrival time and select the potential source location corresponding to the closest modelled arrival time.

  • Patent number: 8182820
Abstract: The subject invention pertains to materials and methods for detecting, preventing and treating retroviral infections in humans and other animals susceptible to infection by retrovirus. It has been discovered that FIV can be transmitted from cats to humans and that the FIV can infect human cells in vivo and that antibodies generated by the infected person cross-react with HIV antigens. Thus, the methods and compositions of the subject invention can be used to detect, prevent and treat FIV infection in humans and other non-feline animals that are susceptible to FIV infection. The methods and compositions of the invention can also be used to prevent and treat infection by HIV in humans.

  • Publication number: 20050240262
Abstract: A prosthetic tri-leaflet valve formed by involuting a portion of a tubular structure inside itself. The valve can be made by a method comprising providing a tubular segment in which three equidistant longitudinal incisions are made in one end of the tube creating three flaps which are involuted, i.e., folded, in toward the inside of the tube and the edges of the flaps secured to the inner wall of the tube to form leaflets. The tube can be formed of a single sheet of synthetic, organic or biological material and can be solid, woven, braided or the like. A braided configuration permits the valve to be annularly compressed and delivered to the site using a minimally invasive delivery mechanism, then expanded at the implantation site.

  • Publication number: 20050118716
Abstract: Methods and structures are disclosed where carrier fiber is used to enable the assembly of two and three dimensional structures of autologous tissue. Tissue is harvested from the donor, integrated with a carrier fiber, and assembled into complex forms rapidly. The structures can be tailored to the requirements of a specific medical procedure. The tissue is kept live and viable during extracorporeal assembly and the finished structure is emplaced in the donor's body. The use of a carrier fiber leader for pre-threading integration and assembly machines facilitates machine set up, drawing of the tissue into the process, and rapid integration and assembly of the multi-dimensional structures. Assembly can include providing tissue and fiber leaders extending from the structure for attaching the structure in place. The carrier fiber either is bio-absorbed as new tissue forms, or forms a bio-compatible substructure for the patient's native tissue.

  • Publication number: 20010010059
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining transfer time and/or bandwidth between devices connected to a computer network includes sending a script or redirect signal to a browser attempting to fetch a banner from a server that causes a timer or clock to run between the initiation of a subsequent fetch page, fetch image, or other request by the browser and the delivery of subsequent data to the browser. The bandwidth of the device and/or the transfer time between the server and the device on which the browser is operating and the bandwidth of the device can then be used in the selection of which subsequent files, images, scripts, banners, executable software, or other content to be served to the browser or in the selection or configuration of web pages, electronic mail, or executable software to be served to the browser.
