  • Patent number: 11563676
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product provide for updating configuration parameters of a universal integrated circuit card via dedicated network functions in a 5G system. In the context of a method, the method receives an encapsulation request from a unified data management module, the encapsulation request comprising data for at least one configuration parameter associated with a universal integrated circuit card of a user device. The method generates, in response to the encapsulation request, a secure packet comprising the at least one configuration parameter and a secure packet header. The method also provides the secure packet to the unified data management module for delivery to the user device.

  • Publication number: 20220353739
Abstract: Described are systems, devices, methods, and computer program products for user data transport over a control plane in a communication system. For example, a method comprises determining a size of user data to be transmitted over a control plane between user equipment and at least one network entity of a communication system. The method also comprises, in response to determining that the size of the user data to be transmitted is below at least a threshold for small data transport, generating a control plane message comprising the user data to be transmitted in a small data container for transport of user data over the control plane. The method further comprises transmitting the generated control plane message between the user equipment and the at least one network entity of the communication system.

  • Publication number: 20220264683
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided herein for handling rejection cases related to Protocol Data Unit (PDU) session establishment. For example, a method is provided that comprises causing transmission of a PDU session establishment request message for a PDU session of a data session type to a data network, receiving a response message to the PDU session establishment request message indicating that the PDU session establishment request for the PDU session of the data session type to the data network is rejected, wherein the response message comprises a rejection cause, and analyzing the rejection cause to identify re-attempt criteria for transmission of a further PDU session establishment request message for a PDU session of a further data session type or to a further data network.

  • Publication number: 20220022278
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product are provided for control plane cellular Internet of Things (CIoT) data transfer in a wireless communication system. A method for control plane messaging between a first entity and a second entity in a network in which control plane messages are sent in a control plane protocol is described. The method can include a service request procedure whereby the 5GMM mode is changed from 5GMM-IDLE to 5GMM-CONNECTED mode. In some embodiments, if a user equipment is using EPS services with control plane CIoT EPS optimization, this procedure can be used for UE initiated transfer of user data via the control plane. In some embodiments, the method can include receiving from a user equipment (UE), at a core access and mobility management function, a control plane service request message, starting a T3517 timer and enter the state 5GMM-SERVICE-REQUEST-INITIATED, and changing a 5GMM mode from a 5GMM-IDLE mode to a 5GMM-CONNECTED mode.

  • Patent number: 9877198
Abstract: A manner of managing UE (user equipment) access to a core network via an access network. The access network may be a trusted or un-trusted network according to 3GPP protocols, and the core network may be or include an EPC. When a UE attempts access, a gateway node determines whether the UE will be authorized and responds accordingly. At least when the UE access request is rejected, a response is sent containing a backoff timer value. The backoff timer value may be based on, for example, the cause of the rejection or the number of attempts made by that UE or both. When the UE receives the response, the UE sets a backoff timer accordingly and preferably does not reattempt access until the backoff timer has expired. In some instances, the UE may be permitted to reattempt access immediately; in others, the UE may be directed not to reattempt access at all.

  • Publication number: 20140241241
Abstract: Embodiments of the claimed subject matter provide a method and apparatus for supporting short message services (SMS) for packet switched devices. One embodiment of the method includes providing, from user equipment, a request for packet-switched (PS) service or combined packet-switched (PS) service and circuit-switched (CS) service. The request includes an indication that the user equipment is requesting short message services (SMS) and is not requesting any other CS services. Some embodiments of the method also include receiving, at the user equipment, a response indicating whether the SMS services are supported by a PS domain.
