  • Patent number: 7909490
Abstract: The present invention provides a lighting apparatus with an elongated housing which accommodates a light source. The housing may be pivoted to rotate between a stored position and a deployed position. The housing may be maintained at a plurality of desired positions within its range of rotation. In addition, according to a feature of the invention, the elongated housing may be relatively rigid, yet also articulated, so that it can flex transversely in response to an applied force. In an embodiment, the housing may be provided with a swivel portion that can be used to change the direction of the light. Various electrical features may be provided as well, such as a brightness control feature and an auto-off feature that switches off the light in the stowed position.

  • Patent number: 7198387
Abstract: A light fixture for housing LED units is provided. The light fixture has a housing that has a substantially H-shaped cross section. The housing has a crossbar with a series of mesas defined on its upper surface. A group of LED units is attached to each of the series of mesas, each LED unit being attached with a thin layer of adhesive. The LED units are electrically insulated from the housing by either the adhesive, which may be electrically insulating, or by an electrically insulating coating on the housing.

  • Patent number: 6787782
Abstract: A system for cleaning air in a vehicle by ultraviolet light includes an exposure chamber for exposure of air to ultraviolet light. An ultraviolet light source is mounted in the exposure chamber. A collection plenum chamber is connected to a first end of the exposure chamber. An air valve is connected to the collection plenum chamber. An expansion plenum chamber is connected to a second end of the exposure chamber including passages for distribution of air to the exposure chamber. An inlet conduit connected to the expansion plenum chamber directs air to the expansion plenum chamber. The system reliably cleans air and may be packaged so as to be integrated into existing vehicle structures, such as a passenger service unit of an airplane.

  • Patent number: 6402610
Abstract: A positive shut-off air outlet comprises a nozzle having an internal surface with a spherical radius of curvature, a disc mounted within the nozzle having an external surface with a spherical radius of curvature adapted to interface with the internal surface of the nozzle, and a plurality of axle pins disposed in the external surface of the disc preferably extending beyond the external surface of the nozzle. A seal may also be provided encircling the nozzle in a space between the nozzle and a ball housing in which the nozzle is rotatably mounted at a point where the axle pins extend. The seal is adapted to rotate with the nozzle inside the ball housing. The disc is mounted for rotation and longitudinal movement within the nozzle between open positions permitting air flow and a closed position preventing air flow. The axle pins are received within axle openings disposed in the surface of the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 6350043
Abstract: A lighting bracket assembly has a base, a lens holder, a retaining ring and a light housing. The base has a locking channel and a top edge radiused to define a first sphere. The lens holder is disposed within the locking channel and is adapted to provide upon installation of the assembly an external surface continuous with a surface defining an opening into which the assembly is installed. The retaining ring is fastened to the base and biases the light housing. The light housing comprises a back portion with an outer circumference and a plurality of curved wing members defining the contour of a second sphere concentric to the first sphere extending from the back portion along the outer circumference. The light housing is adapted to rotate through an angular range of up to 20 degrees upon application of force against the bias of the retaining ring.
