The method of playing an optical recording medium includes analyzing a stream that is read from the optical recording medium, and searching whether a predetermined subtitle code is recorded in a reserved region in a predetermined stream, storing the searched predetermined subtitle code and outputting the stored predetermined subtitle code with a command execution key, and signal-processing the predetermined subtitle code that is output with the command execution key, and displaying the signal-processed predetermined subtitle code on a screen of the played optical recording medium.

Abstract: A digital video disk player having a quick playback function and a method of reproducing an optical disc using the digital video disk player. The quick playback function is accomplished by analyzing reproduction control information and searching the titles corresponding to a predetermined title, calculating the running time of each title based on the video title information corresponding to the searched titles, and reproducing the selected title on the basis of the calculated running time. Accordingly, a selective reproduction of a title corresponding to a main movie among a plurality of titles recorded on the disk can be performed.

Abstract: A data protective apparatus for a hard disc drive (HDD) built in an optical recorder and player and a method thereof. The data protective apparatus includes a hard disc drive for storing latest refresh times and/or access times of stored files, a DVD-RAM drive, a flash ROM for storing an operating system for operating a system and application programs, and a control unit for reading the refresh times and/or access times of the respective files in the hard disc drive, comparing the refresh times and/or access times of the respective files with the present time, and refreshing and storing the files of which the refresh times and/or access times reach the present time. The data protective apparatus can preserve data such as videos, photographs, and music, recorded in the HDD for a long time period without damage, and enable a user to perform a backup of the data in a disc for the permanent preservation of the data.

The temporary recording information file is read upon disc reproduction to conduct a recovery operation. The apparatus includes a recording device recording a temporary recording information file concerned with recovery information while recording data, file system and recording information on a disc. A controller controls the video recording and reproducing apparatus so as to read the temporary recording information file upon reproducing data on the disc to conduct a recovery operation. The temporary recording information file is recorded on a temporary recording information file area arbitrarily defined on the disc.

Accordingly, corresponding moving images can be visually indexed so as to be directly accessed.

Abstract: An optical disk playback control device in which a signal reproducing portion controls a servo of a digital video disk and reproduces a signal. A data processor demodulates and error-corrects data generated from the signal reproducing portion and processes the error-corrected data according to playback control information. A decoder generates and outputs audio and video data by decoding the data in the data processor. A system microcontroller receives a user's key input signal and applies a control signal to the signal reproducing portion to reproduce the data on a disk, and applies reproduction control to the data processor and the decoder.
