    Abstract: A method of treating a spine includes implanting at least a portion of a spinal construct in a patient. The method further includes attaching one or more smart implants to the spinal construct. Each of the one or more smart implants includes (a) an attachment portion configured to attach the smart implant to the spinal construct, and (b) at least one sensor configured to measure an aspect of the spinal construct when the smart implant is attached to the spinal construct. The method further includes receiving, from the one or more smart implants, sensor information related to the aspect of the spinal construct and performing at least one intra-operational adjustment to the spinal construct based on the received sensor information.

The spinal implant further includes at least one antenna in electrical communication with the microelectronics assembly and at least one sensor in electrical communication with the microelectronics assembly, wherein the microelectronics assembly is configured to transmit information received from the at least one sensor to an external device using the at least one antenna.

    Abstract: An implant system is disclosed. The system may include an implant receiver having a base and a first arm and a second arm extending from the base in a longitudinal direction towards an open end. The first arm and second arm may define a receiving cavity therebetween. The first and second arm may each include an outside thread pattern for rotatably supporting a nut movable in the longitudinal direction and an inside thread pattern for rotatably supporting a set screw movable in the longitudinal direction. A rod may be selectively positioned within the receiving cavity at an intermediate elevation between the base and the open end and the rod may be supported by the nut. The set screw may be tightened against the rod thereby locking the rod and nut at the intermediate elevation. In some embodiments, the first and second arms may include a plurality of breakoff locations.

    Abstract: A forming apparatus and method for forming a workpiece used a medical procedure is provided. A controllable bending machine for bending the workpiece is provided. A template is manually formable. The template has a shape sensor so as to sense a shape of the template. A controller receives template shape data from the shape sensor and operates the bending machine in accordance with the template shape data. The bending of the workpiece includes a spring back compensating operation which performs a first bending operation on the workpiece in accordance with the template shape data, acquires workpiece shape data from one of the shape sensor re-disposed associated with the workpiece, or another shape sensor associated with the workpiece, and performs a second bending operation compensating for spring back. A method employs the template for workpiece measurements and the forming apparatus using the measurements for forming the workpiece.
