  • Patent number: 5447571
Abstract: A method of cleaning, either continuously or intermittently, a pneumatically operated pulverized coal system by injecting into this system a stream of generally uniformly sized coke breeze particles. This coke breeze stream would abrade the interior surface of the pulverized coal system thereby cleaning it. Additionally, due to the high carbon content of the coke breeze, this substance will replace or displace a portion of the coal stream delivered to the furnace. Furthermore, such use of coke breeze will eliminate the need to dispose of this by-product in cases where alternative uses are not available.

  • Patent number: 5265983
Abstract: A system and method for continuously transporting fine solids in dense phase includes a blow bottle having an upper inlet for receiving fine solids under pressure, an intermediate inlet for receiving process media, and a lower inlet for receiving fluidizing media. The media is preferably air, but other gases or inert gases may be used. The fine solids are conveyed from a feed hopper through a variable speed rotary feeder into a drop chute having an expansion joint and thereafter through a constant speed rotary feeder to the inlet of the bottle. The variable speed feeder controls the rate of fine solids being discharged in dense phase from the bottle. The fluidizing media fluidizes the fine solids in the bottle, and the process media conveys the fine solids out of the bottle in continuous, dense phase flow to an outlet conduit. A signal corresponding to the weight of the bottle is provided to a control valve connected in the process media supply line to maintain a constant solids level inventory in the bottle.

  • Patent number: 4203391
Abstract: An underfeed fuel feeder for introducing granular material into a fluidized bed. One embodiment introduces material into the bed through a perforated cavity-shaped feed nozzle disposed beneath an air distribution plate. A second embodiment introduces material through a T-shaped nozzle disposed above the plate. A housing protects the nozzle. A third embodiment depicts the nozzle-housing combination in a fluidized bed boiler employing water cooled floors.
