Publication number: 20230346454Abstract: An electrosurgical generator arranged to supply radio frequency (RF) energy to fuse tissue is provided. The generator is arranged to supply RF energy through a removably coupled electrosurgical instrument to fuse tissue grasped by the instrument. The generator monitors a phase angle of the supplied RF energy and adjusts or terminates the supplied RF energy based on the monitored phase angle in comparison to predetermined thresholds and conditions to optimally fuse the tissue. The electrosurgical instrument conducts radio frequency energy to fuse tissue captured between the jaws and a blade to mechanically cut tissue between the jaws. A conductive post positioned on the jaw adjacent to the blade.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2023Publication date: November 2, 2023Inventors: Patrick Elliott, Gary Johnson, Duy Nguyen, Daniel McFarland, Jagdish Sabarad, Benjamin Linville-Engler, Jeremy Albrecht, Dan Durant, Gerald Kowalski, Lou Tiberia, Michael Whitlock, Michael Logan, Igor Gorin, Kevin Hudson, Hank Jacobs, Thomas Matthews

Patent number: 9474519Abstract: The application relates to a hand access laparoscopy device having a gelcap, a retainer, a sleeve and a retention ring. The gelcap includes gel that is bonded to a cap. The cap includes an inner cylindrical wall to which the gel in bonded, thereby providing a sealing area between the device and the wound in a body wall. By securing the gel to the inner cylindrical wall, the thickness of the gel and corresponding cap is minimized along with the overall footprint of the device. With the gel thickness reduced and able to be substantially flush, the “doming” phenomenon produced by insufflation of a patient's abdomen is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2015Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Applied Medical Resources CorporationInventors: John Brustad, Jeremy Albrecht, Nabil Hilal, Gary Johnson, Charles Hart

Publication number: 20080086074Abstract: A visual insufflation obturator is provided. The obturator includes seals, valves, screens and/or various other tip features to eliminate the ingress of fluids, matter and/or gas that can disrupt the visual field of the laparoscope disposed within the obturator. The obturator provides additional features such as lens and anti-fog features to further increase visibility of the scope, efficiently insufflate the patient and ultimately provide an access channel into the insufflated abdomen once the visual insufflation obturator is removed.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2007Publication date: April 10, 2008Applicant: APPLIED MEDICAL PRESOURCES CORPORATIONInventors: Scott Taylor, Paul Balschweit, Jeremy Albrecht, Gary Johnson, Said Hilal, Zoran Falkenstein

Publication number: 20070244426Abstract: A duckbill check valve and septum combination includes a hollow elastomeric body having an open proximal end, a closed distal end and a pair of opposed flat portions that form a distal edge. The distal edge includes a slit having a periphery that is smaller than the periphery of the instrument inserted therethrough. The slit provides a zero seal in the absence of an instrument and an instrument seal in the presence of an instrument. A shield including a tubular member and a plurality of blades protruding distally from the distal end of the tubular member may be placed inside the check valve and operates to center and guide the surgical instrument through the blades before expanding the slit of the check valve. An instrument inserted into the check valve stretches the distal portion of the duckbill valve to form a septum-like seal around the inserted instrument.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 13, 2006Publication date: October 18, 2007Applicant: Applied Medical Resources CorporationInventors: Charles Hart, John Brustad, Jeremy Albrecht

Publication number: 20070239108Abstract: A balloon trocar includes a cannula assembly including a cannula and an outer sleeve fitting over the cannula. The distal end of the outer sleeve is proximal to the distal end of the cannula. A balloon is coupled to a distal portion of the sleeve and a distal portion of the cannula. The outer surface of the cannula includes a plurality of longitudinal channels for transmitting gas or fluid to the balloon. A bolster having a gel pad at its distal portion is slidably mounted to the cannula assembly and may be locked in a desired position. In use, the trocar is inserted into an incision through a body wall and into a body cavity. The balloon is inflated and the cannula assembly pulled proximally against the incision while the bolster is slid distally to the body wall and locked in place to seal the incision with the compressed balloon.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2006Publication date: October 11, 2007Inventors: Jeremy Albrecht, Gigi Au, Eric Nguyen, Donald Gadberry, John Brustad, Gary Johnson, Charles Hart

Publication number: 20070225650Abstract: A stabilization seal is used with existing cannulas for forming a gas-tight seal with tissue in a body wall The stabilization seal includes a cylindrical inflatable elongate tube having a graduated wall-thickness that is thicker in a central region and thinner in a distal-end region. The tube includes a sealing cuff, having an inflation port, for sealing around a cannula. Application of inflation pressure greatly expands the distal-end region while the central region expands slightly. Another embodiment of a stabilization seal includes an inflatable thread that is used with a cannula having a helical channel on its outer surface. An inflatable tube is wound into the channel. A distal end of the tube includes a gas-tight seal and a proximal end of the tube includes an inflation port In the uninflated condition the nested tube is flush with the channel. Inflating the tube enlarges the cannula assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 21, 2006Publication date: September 27, 2007Inventors: Charles Hart, Gigi Au, Kennii Pravongviengkham, Jeremy Albrecht
