  • Publication number: 20240100571
Abstract: A head-mounted device includes an external facing sensor configured to generate a signal corresponding to a characteristic of an external environment. A controller is configured to determine that a quality of the signal is below a threshold value and take an action in response. Another embodiment includes a case for storing a head-mounted device that includes a cleaner coupled with a base or a lid of case. • Publication number: 20240094804
Abstract: Systems of the present disclosure can provide head-mountable devices with different input and output capabilities. Such differences can lead the head-mountable devices to provide the corresponding users with somewhat different experiences despite operating in a shared environment. However, the outputs provided by one head-mountable device can be indicated on another head-mountable device so that the users are aware of the characteristics of each other's experience. Where different head-mountable devices provide different sensing capabilities, the sensors of one head-mountable device can contribute to the detections of the other to provide more accurate and detailed outputs, such as object recognition, avatar generation, hand and body tracking, and the like.

  • Publication number: 20240064280
Abstract: A head-mountable device can operate in concert with one or more optical assemblies thereof to provide multiple users with shared experiences and content enjoyment. Such operations can be facilitated by a connection between the head-mountable device and one or both of its optical assemblies to allow different users to receive content. Such a connection can be made possible by a communication link that directly and/or physically connects the head-mountable device and one or both of its optical assemblies when the one or both of the optical assemblies is removed from the head-mountable device for operation by a separate user. The ability to provide multiple outputs on separate components allows separate users to participate in a shared experience.

  • Publication number: 20240053194
Abstract: A system may have a support structure and a glass layer that separate an exterior region surrounding the system from an interior region. Components may be mounted in the interior region. The components may include an optical component. The glass layer may have a first area that overlaps the optical component and that serves as an optical component window for the optical component. The glass layer may also have a second area that surrounds the first area and does not overlap the optical component. The first area may be selectively weakened relative to the second area to prevent excessive glass fracturing during a damage event from obscuring the optical component. Selective weakening may be provided with laser-induced-damage features, recesses from local thinning, and/or glass-weakening deposited thin films such as physical vapor deposition thin-film coatings of inorganic dielectric.

  • Publication number: 20230350633
Abstract: A system can include head-mounted devices that collaborate to process views from cameras of the respective head-mounted devices and identify objects from different perspectives and/or objects that are within the view of only one of the head-mounted devices. Sharing sensory input between multiple head-mounted devices can complement and enhance individual units by interpreting and reconstructing objects, surfaces, and/or an external environment with perceptive data from multiple angles and positions, which also reduces occlusions and inaccuracies. As more detailed information is available at a specific moment in time, the speed and accuracy of object recognition, hand and body tracking, surface mapping, and/or digital reconstruction can be improved. Such collaboration can provide more effective and efficient mapping of space, surfaces, objects, gestures and users.

  • Publication number: 20230314820
Abstract: A head-mounted device may have a display with first and second pixel arrays that display content for a user. A head-mounted support structure in the device supports the pixel arrays on the head of the user. A left positioner may be used to position a left lens module that includes a left lens and the first pixel array. A right positioner may be used to position a right lens module that includes a right lens and the second pixel array. Sensing circuitry such as proximity sensing circuitry may be used to detect relative positions between the left and right lens modules and facing surfaces of a user's nose while the user is wearing the head-mounted support structure. Control circuitry may adjust the positions of the left and right lens modules using interpupillary distance information for the user and using information from the sensing circuitry.

  • Publication number: 20230314808
Abstract: A head-mounted device may have a head-mounted support structure. Rear-facing displays may present images to eye boxes at the rear of the head-mounted support structure. A forward-facing publicly viewable display may be supported on a front side of the head-mounted support structure facing away from the rear-facing displays. The forward-facing display may have pixels that form an active area in which images are displayed and may have a ring-shaped inactive border area that surrounds the pixels. A cosmetic covering structure such as ring-shaped shroud member may overlap optical components in the inactive border area. The optical components may be received within through-hole openings in the cosmetic covering structure and/or may operate through transparent portions of the cosmetic covering structure.

  • Patent number: 11734407
Abstract: Methods, systems and devices for generating an authentication key are provided. Two or more communications devices can generate an authentication key by monitoring a physical stimulus that is experienced by both devices (e.g., a common physical stimulus). Each device can then use an identical, predetermined algorithm to generate a common authentication key based on the stimulus. The devices can use the common authentication key to establish a secure network.

  • Publication number: 20230251496
Abstract: A head-mountable device can include modules that provide fit adjustment capabilities when assembled together. By providing head-mountable devices with modular features, certain modules can provide fit adjustment capabilities without requiring other modules to be custom designed or available in a wide variety of sizes and/or shapes. For example, a light seal module that provides engagement of a user's face and transmits light from a display element can be coupled to an HMD module. The coupling module that couples the light seal to the HMD module can be provided in a wide variety of sizes and/or shapes to allow a user to select an appropriate one for optimal alignment of an HMD module. Additionally or alternatively, a light seal module can be provided with manual and/or automated adjustment capabilities to achieve the desired fit.
