Patent number: 9235315Abstract: A method and system to display a pop-up window when a user leaves a website are disclosed. A user accesses a website with a web browser. When a web page from the website is loaded into the user's browser, a client-side variable is set to a particular value, such as the current time. When the web page from the website is unloaded from the browser, a hidden pop-up window is loaded. The hidden pop-up window is programmed to sleep and then check the value of the client-side variable. A change in the value of the client-side variable indicates a new web page from the same web server has been loaded into the web browser and the user has not left the website. However, if a web page from a different web server is loaded into the browser, then the value of the client-side variable remains unchanged. Consequently, when the hidden pop-up window awakes and checks the value of the client-side variable, the pop-up window can determine whether the user has left the original website.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2013Date of Patent: January 12, 2016Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventors: Matthew Mengerink, Justin Christopher Early, Jeremy A. Publication number: 20150202976Abstract: A system that enables power flow management for electrical devices, such as electric vehicles. Power flow managers can coordinate charging activities. Power flow decisions may be based on site-level information. Power flow management strategies may be optimized. Power spikes may be avoided by using safe failure modes. Generation stacks may be used for reducing cost. AGC commands are used to control power resources. Power regulation are apportioned to power resources, and power regulation ranges may be determined. Power flow strategies are implemented in response to changes in intermittent power flow. Locations of devices may be determined using network fingerprints. Power flow measurements are determined, and AC power flows are inferred from DC power flows. Network traffic consumption are minimized. Communication protocols are translated.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2014Publication date: July 23, 2015Applicant: GRIDPOINT, INC.Inventors: Seth W. Bridges, Seth B. Publication number: 20140380476Abstract: A network-based publication system, to publish data over a communications network, includes an interface to receive, via the communications network and from a first user, user data to be published by a network-based publication system. The publication system further includes a publisher component to generate publication data (e.g., an HTML document) including the user data and function modifying code. The publisher component generates the publication data in accordance with a publication format. The interface publishes the publication data via the communications network. The function modifying code is interpreted and executed, at a browser application, to disable (or modify) least one function of programming language supported by the browser application.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2014Publication date: December 25, 2014Inventor: Jeremy A. Publication number: 20140068449Abstract: A subset of graphical display items, in a set of graphical display items stored in the one or more electronic storage devices, that have not previously been viewed by a user is determined. A graphical display item is selected from a subset of graphical display items. The graphical display item may be selected according to an order, or selected randomly. An initial display item and the selected graphical display item are electronically transmitted to a user computing device. The initial display item and the selected graphical display item are configured such that the selected graphical display item is displayed on a display device of the user computing device in response to the user selecting the initial display item when the initial display item is displayed on the display device.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2012Publication date: March 6, 2014Applicant: WOLFRAM RESEARCH, INC.Inventors: Stephen Wolfram, Jeremy Davis

Publication number: 20130339893Abstract: A visual display that changes with time and/or an audio signal is rendered while a task is being completed by a computing device (e.g., performing a computation, retrieving information, powering up a device, starting a computer application, etc.). The visual display and/or audio signal are configured to engage the user in order to mitigate latency of the task. Because the user is being engaged by the visual display and/or audio signal, the user may be less likely to notice and/or be bothered by the latency.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2013Publication date: December 19, 2013Inventors: Stephen Wolfram, Jeremy Davis, Edward Pegg, JR.

Patent number: 8452730Abstract: A method of archiving a set of source tables in a database system. Each source table has a plurality of rows. Initially, a consistency point for the set of source tables is established. The database system creates a log record for each change (insert, modify, or delete) effected to a row of the source tables subsequent to the consistency point. Substantially all source table rows are copied to an archive (a data storage object that is external to the database system). Then the accumulated log records for the affected source tables are distilled and appended to the archive.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2008Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Assignee: Teradata US, Inc.Inventors: May Pederson, James Chapman, Cuong Nhan, Jeremy Davis, Donald Pederson, James Pierce, Sunanda Reddy, Stephen Sheldon

Publication number: 20110004406Abstract: A system and methods that enables the determination of the location of a device using a network fingerprint of a known location on the electrical grid. A collection of communication based information is utilized to construct a network fingerprint that is subsequently used to determine whether a device is at a previously known or unknown location. By detecting differences in some or all of this set of information, a system determines whether an electric car has moved from one known location to another or otherwise left a known location. Determining a change in the location of a device, the device or a server take further actions, such as: notifying a user, notifying another server, initiating a configuration process, or operating in different modes. Knowledge about network location assist with assessing the overall load characteristics of a given area of a power grid, and with determining billing related matters.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2010Publication date: January 6, 2011Applicant: GridPoint, Inc.Inventor: Jeremy Davis
