Patent number: 9039320Abstract: In a method of milling asphalt, a relative elevation of an unmilled asphalt pavement surface adjacent to an area to be milled is sensed with respect to a milling machine body and rotatable milling drum of the milling machine. An elevation of a bottom surface of the rotatable milling drum is determined using a computer processor. Based on a map, stored in a computer memory, of a design surface specifying a design elevation of a milled surface over the area to be milled, the elevation of the milling machine body and the rotatable milling drum are automatically adjusted such that the rotatable milling drum mills the asphalt surface to the design elevation over the area to be milled.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2014Date of Patent: May 26, 2015Assignee: Trimble Navigation LimitedInventors: Jeroen Snoeck, Richard Paul Piekutowski

Patent number: 8961065Abstract: A method of milling asphalt is disclosed. The result of a survey of the unmilled asphalt pavement surface adjacent to the area to be milled is received. The result of the survey is stored in a computer memory. A map of the design surface specifying the design elevation of the milled surface over the area to be milled is stored in the computer memory. Patent number: 8794867Abstract: An asphalt milling machine control is provided for an asphalt milling machine of the type which mills an asphalt pavement surface over which the machine travels. The machine has a milling machine body, and a rotatable milling drum mounted on the lower portion of the milling machine body, the bottom surface of the milling drum contacting the asphalt pavement surface to mill the surface to a design elevation. The machine further includes a plurality of machine body supports which are adjusted to raise or lower the height of the milling machine body and the rotatable milling drum with respect to the asphalt pavement surface. This defines the elevation of the surface that results from milling with the drum. The control includes a floating plate, mounted to the side of the milling machine and the rotatable milling drum, or a pair of floating plates mounted to either side of the machine, for sliding over the surface adjacent to the area to be milled.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2011Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Trimble Navigation LimitedInventors: Jeroen Snoeck, Richard Paul Piekutowski

Patent number: 8639434Abstract: A collaborative sharing workgroup comprising a plurality of assets is disclosed. An integrated manager module is fixedly coupled with each asset, the integrated manager module comprising an asset systems monitor; a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) position information monitor; and an environment information monitor. In addition, a communications module is fixedly coupled with each asset. The communications module automatically shares information from each integrated manager module to each of the plurality of assets in the workgroup and similarly receives the shared information from each of the plurality of assets in the workgroup. A user guidance module is also coupled with each asset. The user guidance module utilizes the shared information to automatically update guidance information for an asset. Moreover, the user guidance module operates independently on each asset in a workgroup without utilizing a central managing device.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2011Date of Patent: January 28, 2014Assignee: Trimble Navigation LimitedInventors: Jeroen Snoeck, Jeffrey A. Hamilton, John F. Cameron, Benedict J. G. Atkins, Jeffrey H. Drake

Publication number: 20130290062Abstract: A system for implementing a method of coordinating activities associated with paving a roadway with a paver which receives batches of paving material transported to it by transport trucks from a paving material plant where the batches of paving material are prepared, includes computer systems on the paver, on one or more transport trucks, at the paving material plant, and a server having communication links to the computer system on the paver, the computer system on one or more transport trucks, and the computer system at the paving material plant. The server communicates with the computer systems on the paver, on one or more trucks, and at the plant over communication links to provide coordinated operation of the paver, trucks and plant so that the paving material produced by the plant is delivered to the roadway and applied in a manner by the paver that is efficient.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2012Publication date: October 31, 2013Applicant: TRIMBLE NAVIGATION LIMITEDInventors: Sanjaykumar R.
