  • Patent number: 7963893
Abstract: An elastic resistance band that is fabricated by placing two end couplers on each end of a section of elastic resistance material. A pre-tensioned force is applied by incorporating a rigid tensioning member between the two end couplers of the resistance band. The resistance material is stretched during the assembly process, placing the material in a pre-tensioned state. By pre-tensioning the material, the resistance band then provides a more linear force to the end user.

Date of Patent: June 21, 2011

  • Patent number: 5467525
Abstract: A pick and place machine (30) having morphing vacuum tip (10) comprises a chamber (24) having a sealed first port (25), a filter (22) on a second port (27), and a vacuum (12) on a third port (23), a needle (28) pierced through the sealed first port and through the filter on the second port, wherein a vacuum (14) is placed on the portion of the needle piercing through the sealed first port. Finally, the morphing vacuum tip additionally comprises a non-porous bag (18) having a plurality of fine particles (16) within the bag and an external portion of the bag surrounding a periphery of a portion of the needle pierced through the filter on the second port, the non-porous bag having an open portion being exposed to an external side of the filter on the second port of the chamber, wherein the vacuum on the third port sucks air out of the non-porous bag and the filter prevents the plurality of fine particles from entering the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5376913
Abstract: A variable resistor (102) for varying a resistance between first and second terminals (145, 150) includes a substrate (200) having formed thereon a resistor network (205) for providing the resistance, wherein the resistor network (205) is electrically coupled between the first and second terminals (145, 150). The variable resistor (102) further includes an elastomeric actuator (300) having opposing upper and lower surfaces (310, 305), wherein the lower surface (305) is conductive. The lower surface (305) electrically couples the first terminal (145) to successive portions of the resistor network (205) as an increasing force is applied to the upper surface (310) of the elastomeric actuator (300), in response to which the resistance between the first and second terminals (145, 150) varies.

  • Patent number: 5280225
Abstract: An apparatus for multi-axis rotational motion includes a spherical structure (102) and a housing (104), the housing (104) at least partially enclosing the spherical structure (102) and movably coupled thereto. Magnetically compliant poles (106, 107, 108, 109) are mechanically coupled to one of the spherical structure (102) and the housing (104), and a magnetic drive mechanism (114) is mechanicanically coupled to the other one of the spherical structure (102) and the housing (104) for magnetically imparting up to substantially 360 degrees of rotational motion between the spherical structure (102) and the housing (104) in multiple axes by magnetically interacting with the magnetically compliant poles (106, 107, 108, 109). Optionally, at least one of the spherical structure (102) and the housing (104) couples the rotational motion to another object (1906) mechanically coupled thereto via surface coupling.
