Patent number: 8235253Abstract: A dual mode pistol grip grease gun that operates in either the volume mode or the pressure mode. The grease gun includes a cylinder head having a handle attached thereto. Attached to the cylinder head via a shiftable link is a lever, which has a slot at one end. The shiftable link is disposed in the slot of the lever, and its position therein defines whether the grease gun is in the volume or the pressure mode. The shape of the slot is such that, when the grease gun is in volume mode and when the lever is fully pressed toward the handle, an angle defined by a first axis (defined as a line connecting a pivot point of a connection of the link to the cylinder head and a pivot point of a connection of the link to an end of the slot defining volume mode) and a second axis (defined as a line connecting the pivot point of the connection of the link to the end of the slot defining volume mode and a point along a bottom curve of the slot where the concavity of the curve changes) is approximately ten degrees.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2008Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Alemite LLCInventors: Jerry D. Shew, Don K. Shinn, Jr., Christopher W. Joseph

Patent number: 7997456Abstract: An apparatus converts rotary motion of a motor drive shaft into oscillatory motion of a work piece, for example, in a power tool. The apparatus comprises a planetary gear assembly connected to the motor for rotating an output gear. The output gear meshes with a drive gear including a drive pin. The drive pin fits in a yoke slot for reciprocation of the yoke upon rotation of the drive gear. The yoke is operatively connected to the work piece. An air flow system cools the power tool housing. The housing has an inlet aperture in the handle portion and an outlet aperture for placing the interior of the housing in communication with the atmosphere. A wall integral with the handle portion engages the body of the motor housing between a first end and openings in the body. The wall provides a barrier to minimize air flow between an intake air portion of the interior of the housing and an exhaust air portion.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2009Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Alemite, LLCInventors: Jerry D. Patent number: 7249695Abstract: A battery-powered grease gun is provided for enhancing the pressure applied to a blocked grease fitting. The grease comprises a circuit interconnecting the battery and an electric motor. The circuit includes a switch operable by a user and a thermal protector for breaking the circuit at a predetermined temperature. When applying grease to a blocked grease fitting, actuating the switch until the thermal protector reaches the predetermined temperature breaks the circuit until the motor cools and the thermal protector resets for completing the circuit and again energizing the motor. Continuing to maintain the switch in the actuated position until the thermal protector resets causes the pressure in the grease gun to increase with each cycle of the thermal protector.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2004Date of Patent: July 31, 2007Assignee: Alemite, LLCInventor: Jerry D. Patent number: 6032922Abstract: A fluid flow control valve is provided comprising a valve seat inside a housing for defining a passage opening in the housing and a valve seal positioned against the valve seat for closing off fluid flow. A push rod extends from the valve seal and through the passage opening. The push rod is moveable for moving the valve seal off the seat to open the valve. The valve seal is restricted to substantially axial movement, preferably by a spring biasing the valve seal against the valve seat which spring is sized so as to engage the walls of the passage. A cam shaft rotatably mounted in the housing is provided for moving the push rod upon rotation of the cam shaft. A handle is non-rotatably connected to the shaft for rotating the cam shaft. A latch may be provided for releasably locking the handle in a position where the valve is open. A safety may also be provided on the latch arm so as to prevent the handle from being moved accidentally.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1996Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Assignee: Alemite CorporationInventor: Jerry D. Patent number: 5906047Abstract: A grease fitting is made by forming its outer shell in a series of cold forging steps to make a blank with the necessary thread blank at one end, a hexagonal center portion, and with a grease-fitting-mating nipple outline at the other end. Threads are rolled onto the thread blank, and the grease-gun-mating nipple is rolled to smooth and burnish its surface. The grease fitting is then successively drilled to make a hole of three different diameters to form the one-way valve ball seat and two ball spring clearance diameters. The ball and spring are inserted, and the end of the hole is formed over the end of the spring to capture the spring into place.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1996Date of Patent: May 25, 1999Assignee: Alemite CorporationInventors: Daniel S. Patent number: 5277339Abstract: A dual mode pistol grip grease gun that operates in either the volume mode or the pressure mode. The grease gun comprises a cylinder head, which has a handle fixed to it. Attached to the handle via a shiftable link is a lever, which has a U-shaped slot disposed at one end. The shiftable link is disposed in the U-shaped slot of the lever, and its position therein defines whether the grease gun is in the volume or the pressure mode. Rotatably attached to the lever is a piston, which enters the cylinder head when the lever is depressed. A stop disposed in the lever that rests against the piston keeps the span between the lever and the handle the same for both the volume and pressure modes.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1993Date of Patent: January 11, 1994Assignee: Alemite CorporationInventors: Jerry D.
