  • Publication number: 20080041597
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for selectively releasing a first wellbore component to a second wellbore component using a disconnect device. In one embodiment, the method includes coupling a disconnect device to a workstring and a downhole tool; performing a downhole operation using the downhole tool, and selectively releasing an upper portion of the disconnect device from a lower portion of the disconnect device, thereby releasing the downhole tool from the workstring. The method may also include reconnecting the upper portion of the disconnect device to the lower portion of the disconnect device. In one embodiment, the disconnect device is capable of transferring torque to the wellbore component.

  • Patent number: 7308940
Abstract: A method and apparatus for milling and/or broaching within a wellbore. A flexible broach runs into the wellbore and is located adjacent a portion of the wellbore to be broached. The broach reciprocates axially within the wellbore and removes at least part of the portion to be broached. Weight may be coupled to the broach, thereby applying a resultant side load for broaching an offset portion of the wellbore. The broach comprises a flexible member that may be a bare cable. When an abrasive material is disposed on an outer surface of the flexible member, the flexible member may be a cable, a continuous rod, or pressurized coiled tubing. Alternatively, sleeves positioned on the flexible member may have an abrasive material on their outer surface. A rotational mill that is either coupled to the broach or run in separately from the broach can further mill the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 6381908
Abstract: A device for setting studs includes a rigid face plate that has a fixed length and includes a lower surface, a front edge, a rear edge, and opposite side edges; a rigid bar member extending from the face plate lower surface so as to have a rear surface perpendicular to the face plate lower surface. The face plate has first and second square inside corners formed in its rear edge for squarely aligning and setting studs a desired distance apart between centers and restricting movement thereof during fastening to a sill plate or similar structure.

  • Patent number: 6197207
Abstract: Methods for reducing or preventing the transmission of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy through blood or blood products are provided. The methods require the intact removal of leukocytes that are present in a blood product or an intermediate of a blood product prior to administering the blood product to a patient. To prevent or reduce the transmission of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies disease substantially all leukocytes are removed intact without significant lysis of such leukocytes.

  • Patent number: 5535541
Abstract: A fishing hook guard includes an elongated tubular base having a closed bottom end and an open top end and an inside diameter for receiving the point and barb of the hook and a cap adapted to fasten to and cover the open top end of the base so as to lock the point and barb of the hook in the guard. The cap and base are fastened together to hold the intrusive end of the hook thereinside. One or more longitudinal slots can be provided in the open top end of the base to receive the shaft of the hook. A generally lateral and outwardly protruding flange is interposed between the ends of the base to protect the user's thumb and/or fingers from being inadvertently poked during an attempted insertion of the hook into the base. Structures for aiding the user in gripping the outside of the guard are provided thereon.

  • Patent number: 5095643
Abstract: A single shot handgun of the type having a frame, a receiver, a firing chamber in the receiver, a firing pin, a hammer for driving the firing pin, a barrel connected to the receiver being pivotally attached to the frame so that the barrel and receiver can be pivoted from a battery position to an open position. A mechanism for locking the receiver in the battery position comprises a longitudinal slot cut into the rearward end of the receiver. A longitudinal, second slot is cut into the face of the frame that abuts the rearward end of the receiver when the receiver is in the battery position. A longitudinal lug is received in the second slot, with the lug being slidable into a forward position wherein it makes engagement with the slot in the receiver to lock the receiver in its battery position. Finger engagements are provided at the ends of the lug for withdrawing the lug from engagement with the slot in the receiver to allow the receiver to pivot to its open position.
