  • Publication number: 20060074560
Abstract: A method and system of evaluating crop performance facilitates characterization of the environmental impact of a geographic region or areas within the region for growing plant-life. Environmental measurements are obtained. The environmental measurements are associated with a geographic region. Each environmental measurement includes at least one of soil data and weather data. Respective location data is obtained. The location data is associated with corresponding environmental measurements. An estimated performance characteristic is determined for a particular crop planted in the geographic region based on the obtained environmental measurements and respective location data. Contours are established for one or more uniform performance areas with generally uniform performance characteristic within the geographic region by applying a decision-tree analysis to the obtained environmental measurements.

  • Publication number: 20050203671
Abstract: A method and system facilitates the provision of a diverse supply of electrical energy from wind energy. One or more qualified wind data regions are established within a geographic area. Each qualified wind data region meets or exceeds a wind velocity criteria over a requisite time period. Accessible transmission and distribution zones are established where a desired range of electrical energy is potentially distributable to electricity purchasers or consumers via existing distribution infrastructure. One or more candidate regions are determined based on the overlap of the regions and the zones. A selector selects preferential regions, for placement of conversion devices, from the candidate regions based on the preferential regions being spatially separated from one another by a minimum distance to provide an electrical power generation reliability exceeding a minimum target or percentage of reliability.

  • Publication number: 20050192779
Abstract: A method for determining a location of a conversion device for converting wind energy into electrical energy comprises establishing a plurality of data layers, including at least a wind data layer and a transmission grid data layer. Each data layer contains attribute data that is associated with corresponding location data. The location data of one layer is aligned with the location data of other layers to form a composite layer. The composite layer is searched to identify the first compliant location data associated with a target value or a target value range of the attribute data for the wind data layer. The composite layer is searched to identify a second compliant location data associated with a target value or a target value range of the attribute data for the transmission grid data.

Accessible transmission and distribution zones are established where a desired range of electrical energy is potentially distributable to electricity purchasers or consumers via existing distribution infrastructure. Cross-correlation factors are determined for wind data associated with pairs of wind data regions within the geographic area. One or more candidate regions are determined based on the overlap of the regions and the zones.

  • Publication number: 20050192859
Abstract: A method and system relates to establishing or marketing a wind-powered electrical generation facility. Land data is obtained and is associated with the candidate regions. The land data may comprise at least one of a land use of the respective candidate region and an identity of a holder of an interest in real property associated with the candidate region. A selector selects a preferential region, for placement of a conversion device, from the candidate regions based on a land use data.

  • Publication number: 20050192780
Abstract: A method and system determines a location of a conversion device for converting wind energy into electrical energy by considering both technical and economic viability factors. One or more qualified wind data regions are established within a geographic area. Each qualified wind data region meets or exceeds a wind velocity criteria over a requisite time period. Distribution accessible zones are established where a desired range of electrical energy is distributable via existing distribution infrastructure. Candidate regions are determined based on the overlap of the regions and the zones. Land data is obtained and is associated with the candidate region. The land data may comprise at least one of a land use and a holder of an interest in real property associated with the candidate region.
