  • Patent number: 11946717
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for a pressurized gas launcher. The pressurized gas launcher includes a pressure source providing a quantity of high-pressure gas, a launcher barrel having a first end and a second end having an opening, and a bladder. The bladder is housed within the launcher barrel and selectively fluidically coupled to the pressure source. When filled with pressurized gas, the bladder plastically deforms. The gas launcher further includes a projectile housed within the launcher barrel with the bladder positioned between the first end of the launcher barrel and the projectile. The projectile is dischargeable from the launcher barrel when the bladder ruptures when gas in the bladder exceeds a pressure threshold.

  • Patent number: 11098784
Abstract: A shock mitigator is provided for mitigating physical shock to a joined object. The shock mitigator includes a hollow body capable of being affixed to the object and having two ends defining a volume therein. A cavitating liquid is disposed in the hollow body volume. At least one end cap is slidingly disposed within the hollow body to seal at least one end thereof. When exposed to a physical shock the cavitating liquid changes phase from a liquid to a vapor, absorbing energy from the shock.

  • Patent number: 9222824
Abstract: A sensor system for determining the position of a gas-liquid interface on a surface includes a light source and photo detectors spaced along the surface and capable of detecting reflections from the light source. The photo detectors are joined to a processor which determines if the detectors have received a reflection when the gas phase of the gas-liquid interface contacts the surface. An optical guide can be provided having the light source and detectors positioned therein. The guide is positioned in the region of the gas-liquid interface. The guide can utilize total internal reflection to distribute light to the detectors where light strikes a gas-guide interface whereas light striking a liquid-guide interface is refracted through the interface.

  • Patent number: 8922636
Abstract: A synthetic aperture three-dimensional fluid flow imaging apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a plurality of cameras. At least two of the cameras are oriented to view a volume along mutually non-parallel directions. The cameras are connected to a programmable computer. The computer captures images from the cameras to generate three dimensional intensity fields. The computer can refocus the images on at least one refocus plane to generate reconstructed three dimensional intensity fields on a plane within the volume. Intensity field cross-correlation is performed on the reconstructed three dimensional intensity fields to extract velocity fields within the volume. The velocity fields represent velocities of objects or fluid phases within the volume. These velocity fields can be recorded for later use.
