  • Publication number: 20030003898
Abstract: In a wireless telecommunications network, when a wireless telephone user is placed on an on-hold status by the other party, additional information/data is downloaded (pushed) to the telephone user's display screen on their telephone using a wireless application protocol to the user's web-enabled telephone. There are thus parallel connections established—the voice connection and the data connection downloading the web page.

  • Patent number: 5832239
Abstract: A computer system, memory, and computer-implemented method for generating at least one high performance communication path is provided. The communication path has a plurality of linked components, including a negotiator and a controller. The method includes the steps of registering the negotiator with the controller (e.g. stream head), verifying acknowledgement of negotiation from each component linked between the negotiator and the controller, and in response to a valid verification, redirecting I/O between the controller and the negotiator.

Inventors: Derwin DeLon Gavin, Daniel Cletus Gillen, Jessie Ann Hays Haug, James Britt Partridge, Lance Warren Russell, Eldon Perry Smith
  • Patent number: 5812767
Abstract: An information handling system includes a number of stations connected in a network configuration, each station including a processor, a storage and an I/O controller, where the processor operates under control of an operating system control program which is divided into a user (application) space and a kernel (system) space, the kernel may include a protocol layer interfacing the user application to a DLPI in the kernel, a DLPI which interfaces between the protocol module and a device driver interface, a device driver and a hardware device for connecting the station to the network. When data is to be received by a station from the network, the following steps are performed in the DLPI: recognize the network interface type (FDDI, Ethernet, Token Ring, etc.
