  • Publication number: 20150169238
Abstract: A memory module comprises a volatile memory subsystem configured to coupled to a memory channel in computer system and capable of serving as main memory for the computer system, a non-volatile memory subsystem providing storage for the computer system, and a module controller coupled to the volatile memory subsystem, the non-volatile memory subsystem, and the C/A bus. The module controller is configured to control intra-module data transfers between the volatile memory subsystem and the non-volatile memory subsystem. The module controller is further configured to monitor C/A signals on the C/A bus and schedule the intra-module data transfers in accordance with the C/A signals so that the intra-module data transfers do not conflict with accesses to the volatile memory subsystem by the memory controller.

  • Publication number: 20140207877
Abstract: An approach for enabling delivery and presentment of service provider notification messages to a subscribed user via a social networking service of the user is described. An integration platform determines whether a network identifier for accessing a social networking service via a communication network is associated with subscriber account information maintained by the communication service provider. The integration platform also generates a request for linking a social networking identifier associated with the social networking service with the subscriber account information based on the determination. The integration platform further initiates a rendering of a notification message received from the communication service provider to a user interface of the social networking service based on acceptance of the request.

  • Publication number: 20140083135
Abstract: A tactical finger band is described and taught having a band body which has one segment or is longitudinally dividable into multiple segments. The band body is openable due to the use of one or more socket-protrusion assembly as connecting mechanisms. In addition, the tactical finger band may also include a band cover or other accessories. The tactical finger band disclosed here is particularly suitable for people engaging in industrial work, medical careers, sports activities, military missions, and law enforcement and fire-fighting operations. With a sufficient pulling force applied to the band body, the finger band may be opened due to the disengagement of the socket-protrusion assembly, preventing injury to the wearer. Moreover, the band body and/or the band cover may bear patterns, colors, logos, and words appropriate for the occasion in which the band is used and the person wearing the band.

  • Publication number: 20140056123
Abstract: Method and system of failure handling in a radio access network that minimizes the recovery time when a core node fails by storing the routing information of the core node and, whenever said core node fails, loading the routing information in an auxiliary node with the same hardware and software configuration as the core node. The traffic received at the core node is then routed to the auxiliary node through a physical connection that is transparent to the radio access network. The amount of routing information required by this system is minimal, and thus the recovery time is greatly reduced.

  • Publication number: 20130347112
Abstract: Two ends of a QKD system are connected through a private quantum channel using a protocol based on the principles of quantum physics and a conventional channel, both channels being introduced through the same medium using multiplexing techniques, wherein a possible intrusion in the communication is detected by checking the variability of the distribution of exchanged photons between both ends of said private quantum channel and in case of detecting an intrusion due to the risk identified on the communication channel the system launches an alarm. To avoid other attacks another conventional channel different from the quantum channel is further used in order to check the error rate in the exchanges.

  • Patent number: 8091514
Abstract: An energy re-claimer is provided for preheating water prior to the water entering a conventional residential, commercial or industrial gas water heater. The energy re-claimer is mounted on top of the water heater between the draft diverter and the hot air flue. The energy re-claimer is preferably a double wall construction that is larger in diameter than the draft diverter and hot air flue in order to allow normal passage of hot air through the system; however, a single wall construction may also be used. Tap water enters a pipe inside the double wall construction and is heated prior to being directed through the water heater. The pipe may be constructed of a number of straight lengths connected by returns or may be in the form of a single straight section connected to a coil made of connected curving sections that surround the axis of the energy re-claimer.

  • Patent number: 8029902
Abstract: Bactericidal substrates and methods of functionalizing the surface of substrates with quaternary ammonium and quaternary phosphonium groups using non-equilibrium RF plasmas are provided. The methods include the step of treating the surface of a substrate with a plasma to create surface active sites. Some methods include the step of reacting the surface active sites with linker molecules, which are then reacted with quaternary ammonium precursor molecules to provide a substrate surface functionalized with quaternary ammonium precursor groups. Other methods react the surface active sites with polymer precursor molecules under plasma conditions to form a covalently-bound polymer layer having reactive sites. The polymer reactive sites are reacted with quaternary phosphonium precursor molecules to provide a substrate surface functionalized with quaternary phosphonium groups. Also provided are bactericidal substrates having immobilized, covalently-bound quaternary ammonium or quaternary phosphonium groups.

  • Publication number: 20080210393
Abstract: The invention relates to the use of mediator-enzyme system, which is characterised in that the enzyme comprises a laccase-type enzyme and the mediator comprises a chemical compound which acts as a redox intermediate in the enzymatic oxidation, for the elimination of lipophilic compounds (including, among others, sterols that are free and conjugated in the form of esters and glycosides, triglycerides, fatty alcohols and resin acids) which cause deposits in the product, the machinery and the circuits during the production of pulp and paper (both from hardwood and softwood and non-woody plants). The treatment eliminates up to 100% of the aforementioned lipophilic compounds, depending on the material treated, and, in this way, improves the quality of the pulp obtained, the operation of the industrial installations and the characteristics of the end product.
