  • Publication number: 20080108301
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for synchronizing programming content between a mobile apparatus (e.g., a vehicle) and a residential network. The method begins by receiving a wireless content-identifying signal from a mobile apparatus through an access device located on a premises. The wireless content-identifying signal identifies a first source of programming content that is available to a first rendering device associated with the mobile apparatus. Based on the wireless content-identifying signal, a second source of the programming content is identified which is available to a second rendering device located on the premises. A control signal is transmitted to the second rendering device directing the second rendering device to access and render the programming content.

  • Patent number: 7301914
Abstract: An access point (102) conveys (202) to communication units (104) of a plurality of multicast groups, a first indication that the access point supports a method for sending a multicast message. The access point receives (204) a multicast message directed to a receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups, and determines (206) that the communication units belonging to the receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups also support the method. The access point signals (208) a second indication to selectively awaken the communication units belonging to the receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups, and transmits (210) the multicast message to the receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups in a manner that allows (212) at least one communication unit not belonging to the receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups to remain asleep during the transmitting.

  • Patent number: 7190956
Abstract: An instant message (IM) proxy according to the present invention is capable of maintaining the availability status of a mobile subscriber even when the mobile subscriber is roaming or temporarily out of a mobile network coverage area, and even after the IM proxy unsuccessfully attempts to send an instant message to the mobile subscriber. Messages will continue to be re-sent to the mobile subscriber in the near-real time manner characteristic of a typical instant message system until IM parameters programmed into a retry counter and/or the timer located at the proxy are exceeded and the IM proxy drops the message. In addition, the IM proxy of the present invention is capable of bundling instant messages intended for the mobile subscriber to minimize mobile system overhead connection costs while at the same time minimizing IM system latency.

  • Patent number: 7184790
Abstract: When any remote unit (113–118) desires to create a talk group, it transmits an inbound message to a group call database (112). The inbound message includes the identity of the requesting communication device, and the participants of the talk group. Upon receiving the request, group the call database (112) provides an outbound message to all members of the newly created talk group giving them a chance to opt out of inclusion into the new talk group. The database (112) then creates a database entry with the new talk group and those remote units that positively responded to the outbound message.
