  • Patent number: 11805431
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for link adaptation in wireless communications. Some implementations more specifically relate to transmitter-based modulation and coding scheme (MCS) selection. A transmitting device transmits a test packet, over a wireless channel, to a receiving device. The receiving device generates one or more signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) estimates for the wireless channel based on the received sounding packet. In some aspects, each SINR estimate may be associated with a particular modulation order. In some other aspects, each SINR estimate may be generated based on a transmitter configuration or a receiver type to be used for subsequent communications between the transmitting device and the receiving device. The receiving device transmits feedback, including the SINR estimates, to the transmitting device.

  • Publication number: 20230344690
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing carrier frequencies for wireless communications in wireless local area networks (WLANs). Some implementations more specifically relate to packet designs and numerologies that support wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz. In some aspects, a wireless communication device may up-clock a physical layer (PHY) convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) for transmission on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz, where the PPDU conforms to an existing PPDU format associated with carrier frequencies below 7 GHz. As used herein, the term “up-clocking” refers to increasing the frequency of a clock signal used to convert the PPDU between the frequency domain and the time domain. In some aspects, the up-clocking may result in a subcarrier spacing (SCS) greater than or equal to 1.2 MHz, where the SCS represents a spacing between the subcarriers on which a PHY preamble of the PPDU is modulated.

  • Publication number: 20230291631
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing the transmit power of wireless communication devices operating on power spectral density (PSD)-limited wireless channels. Some implementations more specifically relate to tone mapping techniques and packet designs that support duplicate (or “DUP mode”) transmissions to multiple users. In some implementations, an access point (AP) may transmit a PPDU that includes first user data and second user data, where at least the first user data is transmitted in a DUP mode. As such, the first user data may be mapped to a number (N) of tones spanning a first RU in accordance with a dual carrier modulation (DCM) scheme, and a duplicate copy of the first user data may be mapped to N tones spanning a second RU in accordance with the DCM scheme. In some implementations, the second user data also may be transmitted in a DUP mode.

  • Patent number: 11757564
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for link adaptation in a wireless local area network (WLAN). A link adaptation test packet from a first WLAN device to a second WLAN may include a plurality of link adaptation test portions that are generated using a corresponding plurality of transmission rate options. For example, the plurality of link adaptation test portions may be modulated using different modulation and coding scheme (MCS) options. Thus, a single test packet may be used to evaluate different transmission rate options. The second WLAN device may provide feedback information regarding the link adaptation test portions. The feedback information may be used to determine a transmission rate for a subsequent transmission from the first WLAN device to the second WLAN device based on wireless channel conditions.

  • Publication number: 20230198821
Abstract: A technique for wireless communication of a punctured null data packet with a long training field sequence is disclosed. The long training field (LTF) sequence is generated for the null data packet (NDP) for transmission over a channel having a bandwidth that is an integer multiple of 80 MHz. The LTF sequence is modulated onto a plurality of tones of the channel excluding tones within a punctured subchannel of a plurality of subchannels of the channel. The modulation may be based on a size and location of the punctured subchannel and a symbol duration associated with transmitting the LTF sequence. The NDP is transmitted including the LTF sequence to a second wireless communication device via the channel. A partial bandwidth feedback may be received in response to the LTF in the punctured NDP.

  • Publication number: 20230180160
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, apparatus, and computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for relative timing drift correction for distributed multi-user transmissions. In one aspect, a first access point (AP) may receive a first signal from a second AP. The first signal may be associated with a channel sounding procedure to be performed substantially simultaneously by the second AP and the first AP. The first AP may then receive a second signal from the second AP, and prior to a substantially simultaneous transmission by the second AP and the first AP. The second signal may include timing information relative to the first signal. The first AP may determine a start time of the substantially simultaneous transmission at the first AP based on the timing information, and may initiate the substantially simultaneous transmission according to the determined start time.

  • Publication number: 20230135383
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for encoding data for wireless communication to achieve a desired amplitude distribution. Some implementations more specifically relate to performing an encoding operation to shape the amplitudes of the resultant symbols such that the amplitudes have a non-uniform distribution. In some implementations of the non-uniform distribution, the probabilities associated with the respective amplitudes generally increase with decreasing amplitude. Some implementations enable the tracking of MPDU boundaries to facilitate successful decoding by a receiving device. Additionally or alternatively, some implementations enable the determination of a packet length after performing the amplitude shaping, which enables a transmitting device to determine the number of padding bits to add to the payload and to signal the packet length to a receiving device so that the receiving device may determine the duration of the packet.

  • Patent number: 11637723
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In some systems (e.g., Wi-Fi systems), a transmitting device such as an access point (AP) or mobile station (STA), may identify a number of spatial streams for a data transmission that is less than a number of transmit antennas, and may transmit a packet over a channel. In a first implementation, the packet may be formatted in a multi-user frame format, with a number of long training field (LTF) symbols equal to the number of transmit antennas. In a second implementation, the packet may be a null data packet (NDP), and the device may transmit a separate data packet. In a third implementation, the packet may be formatted in single-user frame format with a modified LTF. A receiving device may receive the packet, and may perform channel estimation and power amplifier (PA) distortion cancellation based on the received packet.
