  • Patent number: 7071252
Abstract: Monoesters derived from a dihydric alcohol and a carboxylic acid such as benzoic acid are secondary plasticizers for non-aqueous and solventless plastisols containing primary plasticizers that do not contain unreacted alkanol groups.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 11, 2003
Date of Patent: July 4, 2006
    Assignee: Velsicol Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Bruce E. Stanhope, William D. Arendt, Jiamin Lang
  • Patent number: 6933337
Abstract: Mixtures of esters produced by reacting a mixture of aromatic and aliphatic monocarboxylic acids with a diol containing from 2 to 12 carbon atoms are effective plasticizers for plastisols containing dispersion grade polymers of vinyl chloride. The freezing point of the present ester mixtures and their efficacy as plasticizers can be varied by adjusting the type and relative concentration of the aliphatic acid used to prepare the plasticizer. The ester mixtures can also be used as plasticizers for other organic polymers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 20, 2003
Date of Patent: August 23, 2005
Inventors: Jiamin Lang, Bruce Edward Stanhope, Thomas Joseph Bohnert, William David Arendt

  • Patent number: 6706806
Abstract: A portion of the repeating units in polyesters useful as plasticizers for rigid organic polymers are derived from diethylene glycol and at least one dicarboxylic acid. The percentage of these repeating units that can be present in polyesters that are compatible with the organic polymer into which they are incorporated is inversely proportional to the weight average molecular weight of the polyester.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 20, 2000
Date of Patent: March 16, 2004
    Assignee: Velsicol Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Jiamin Lang, Franz Josef Luxem, Bruce E. Streeter, Bruce E. Stanhope, Eric R. Zimmermann

  • Publication number: 20030023112
Abstract: Mixtures of esters produced by reacting an aromatic and an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid with a stoichiometric quantity of a diol are effective plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride and other rigid organic polymers. The freezing point of the mixtures and the efficacy of the present ester mixtures as plasticizers can be varied by adjusting the type and molar ratio of the two types of acids used to prepare the ester mixture.
