  • Publication number: 20040214690
Abstract: A virtual reality system transposes a user's position and movement in real space to virtual space. The virtual reality system includes a locomotion interface that outputs signals indicative of a user's position in real space. The locomotion interface includes a pressure-sensing mat having a base layer, a plurality of pressure sensing elements formed over the base layer, a top layer formed over the plurality of pressure-sensing elements, and an input interface formed between the base layer and the top layer. The locomotion interface further includes a base around which the pressure sensing mat is disposed, the base structure being fixed in a first position but freely moveable in a second position. The plurality of pressure sensing elements output a signal indicative of pressure applied to the top layer.

  • Publication number: 20040157208
Abstract: A method of using Raman imaging microscopy to evaluate drug actions in living cells is disclosed. Specifically the invention describes the methods of using Raman imaging microscopy to detect drug uptake, distribution, binding, and metabolism in a single cell, and to study drug pharmacokinetics at the cellular level. The method involves measuring the Raman image of both the drug and the cell. Control images and post-treatment images of the cell were studied. Ratio images were calculated and the requisite information was obtained from a study of the intensity of the bright areas in the ratio images.

The virtual reality system includes a locomotion interface that outputs signals indicative of a user's position in real space. The locomotion interface includes a pressure-sensing mat having a base layer, a plurality of pressure sensing elements and a counter-force generating layer formed over the base layer, and a top layer formed over the plurality of pressure-sensing elements. • Patent number: 6007491
Abstract: A method of monitoring cardiac output. The method uses a blood pressure waveform as input. The waveform is digitized and various blood pressure features are extracted. The features are used as inputs to a fuzzy logic model, where each input is fuzzified by determining its degree of confidence as a member of one or more fuzzy membership regions. A rule base is applied to the defuzzified inputs to obtain a fuzzy stroke volume index. This output is defuzzied and used to calculate cardiac output.
