  • Patent number: 9436447
Abstract: A device compiler and linker within a parallel processing unit (PPU) is configured to optimize program code of a co-processor enabled application by rematerializing a subset of live-in variables for a particular block in a control flow graph generated for that program code. The device compiler and linker identifies the block of the control flow graph that has the greatest number of live-in variables, then selects a subset of the live-in variables associated with the identified block for which rematerializing confers the greatest estimated profitability. The profitability of rematerializing a given subset of live-in variables is determined based on the number of live-in variables reduced, the cost of rematerialization, and the potential risk of rematerialization.

  • Patent number: 9430144
Abstract: An electronic device can be unlocked by displaying, while the electronic device is in a locked state, on a touchscreen of the electronic device, line(s) dividing the touchscreen into input regions. Input gestures are detected on the touchscreen, and one of the input regions is identified as an input region containing the starting point of the input gesture. A base number is retrieved corresponding to the identified input region, and a numerical value of a password digit is calculated by using the base number and a numerical value corresponding to the input gesture. A sequence of thus calculated password digits is compared to a password stored within the electronic device, and the electronic device is unlocked following a match between the series of calculated password digits and the stored password.

  • Patent number: 9363583
Abstract: System, apparatus, and method embodiments are provided for suppressing the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) crosstalk in multiple wavelength channel signals propagating in fiber links, such as in WDM/DWDM or other optical communications systems. The SRS is reduced or suppressed by separating the channels into two sets of different channels, such as even and odd channels, and then performing subtraction of signal amplitudes between the two sets of channels. The channels are separated by an interleaver into the two sets. Alternatively, a wavelength selective switch (WSS) is used to separate the channels into the two sets on which the subtraction of signal amplitudes is then performed. In an embodiment, the signals are low frequency modulation signals used for channel monitoring for optical communications systems.

  • Patent number: 9270370
Abstract: Embodiments are provided for applying pilot tone modulations to optical signals by introducing bias bits to data frames carried on the optical signals. Since the modulation is done by modifying data, the modulation depth is accurate, and there is no need for calibration or feedback control, which can improve power monitoring accuracy and simplify implementation. In an embodiment, a transmitter determines a period of a pilot tone modulation for tracking or identifying an optical channel. The transmitter inserts a sequence of bias bits, periodically according to the determined period, in a plurality of frames comprising original data bits. The amplitudes of the optical signals carrying the frames are modulated at a higher frequency than the pilot tone modulation. The optical signals are then transmitted including the bias bits within the frames.

  • Publication number: 20150320509
Abstract: The present teaching relates to surgical procedure assistance. In one example, a first image of a patient captured prior to a surgical procedure is received. A treatment plan is generated based on the first image. The treatment plan includes information related to one or more surgical instruments. A second image of the patient captured after the surgical procedure has been initiated is received. The treatment plan is dynamically adjusted based on a pose of any of the one or more surgical instruments identified from the second image. A third image of the patient captured after a lesion is treated by at least one of the surgical instruments based on the adjusted treatment plan is received. Whether a further treatment to the lesion is needed is determined based on the third image. Upon determining a further treatment is needed, an updated treatment plan is dynamically generated based on the third image.
