Fabric ruler with raised edge guide and rotary cutting tool with groove for engaging the edge guides
Patent number: 8826789Abstract: Apparatus, systems and methods in accordance with the present invention are related to rotary cutting tools and rulers. In one illustrative embodiment of a system in accordance with the present invention, a ruler for use with a rotary cutting tool has a guide ridge formed as a wall along a cutting edge of the ruler. A hand held rotary cutting tool has a groove in a cutting portion thereof that corresponds to the guide ridge and resides thereon during cutting. The rotary blade of the hand held rotary cutter is maintained in a position adjacent to the cutting edge of the ruler as the cutter is advanced long the ruler cutting edge by the interaction of the groove and the guide ridge. The cutter may include blade guard locking features and a blade depth control for additional safety and control during use.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2009Date of Patent: September 9, 2014Inventor: Jim Bagley -
Patent number: 8721393Abstract: Apparatus, systems and methods related to sharpening blades for rotary cutters. In one illustrative embodiment, a power sharpener system secures a rotary cutting blade between upper and lower columns that form a rotating axle in contact with upper and lower sharpening stones, each positioned at an appropriate angle to contact a cutting edges of the rotary blade for sharpening. The upper column may be rotatably attached to an upper cover or lid and the lower column rotatably disposed in a base. After the rotary blade is secured, an electric motor is used to rotate the column, contacting the edges of the blade against the stones to simultaneously sharpen both edges of the blade. In some embodiments, a retractable plate may be disposed around the lower column for placement of the rotary blade thereon and a lifting lever may be used to facilitate blade removal.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2013Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Inventor: Jim Bagley

Patent number: 8708777Abstract: Apparatus, systems and methods in accordance with the present invention are related to sharpening blades for rotary cutters. In one illustrative embodiment of a system in accordance with the present invention, an elongated sharpening stone is held at a desired angle between underlying support structures on a base and a securing cap. A planar edge of the stone is exposed in an adjustable channel between the stone and a slidably adjustable sidewall. The angle of the sharpening stone corresponds to correct angle for a sharpened edge on a rotary blade disposed on a hand held rotary cutter, which is inserted into the channel. By advancing the cutter through the channel an edge of the rotary blade may be honed and/or sharpened.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2012Date of Patent: April 29, 2014Inventors: Jim Bagley, Grace Elizabeth Bagley

Patent number: 6151816Abstract: A quilting frame which is comprised of two complementary support structures each of which includes a base member, an elevation member, and a fulcrum member. The two complementary support structures are coupled by a cross member which spans the distance between the two complementary support structures. The cross member is coupled to each of the elevation members at a location near where the elevation member is coupled to the fulcrum member. Coupled to each of the fulcrum members at a fulcrum end is a rail assembly. The rail assembly is comprised of two complementary rail brace members which generally hold at least three rails upon which components of a project are disposed. The at least three rails consist of a take-up rail disposed at the fulcrum end, and at least two supply rails disposed at a supplying end of the rail assembly.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1997Date of Patent: November 28, 2000Inventor: Jim Bagley
