    Abstract: A system comprises a plurality of power converters, a plurality of energy storage systems, a first common node, a second common node, and zero-reference voltage node. Each power converter is coupled between one energy storage system and the first and second common nodes. The system operates to regulate power between the power converters and the first and second common nodes. Each power converter is a bi-directional power converter and each energy storage system is a battery pack. In one example, the first common node is regulated to a voltage VSPAN, and the second common node is regulated to a voltage VSCN which is the mean of all voltages output by the battery packs. In another example, the first common node is regulated to a voltage ?VSPAN, and the second common node is regulated to a voltage +VSPAN. No power converter processes more than voltage VSPAN yielding high-efficiency power conversion.

The first and second probes are separated by a first distance. The first and second probes are configured to generate an electrical current in the coating layer. The method further includes placing third and fourth probes on the outer surface of the coating layer in a location that is between the first and second probes. The third and fourth probes are separated by a second distance that is less than the first distance. Still further, the method includes generating an electrical current in the coating layer using the first and second probes, measuring the electrical voltage using the third and fourth probes, and calculating the thickness of the coating layer based on the measured electrical voltage.

A set of predetermined location criteria is generated for the first offender. Location data from the cellular telephone are received at the server and include an indication of a location of the telephone. Offender voice sample data are compared to the voiceprint. An alert is generated when the voice sample fails to match the voiceprint. The offender's location is compared to location criteria for the offender and an alert is generated when the location is inconsistent with predetermined location criteria. The alert is transmitted to the officer communication device.

The method further includes subtracting a baseline signal from the frequency-domain signal and determining a local minimum frequency of the baseline-subtracted frequency-domain signal. Still further, the method includes calculating the thickness of the coating layer based on the determined local minimum frequency. Additional evaluation methods including ones based on resistivity, terahertz, and microwave are further disclosed.

A processor receives a communication including an indication of a desire of a user to purchase an item from a merchant. The processor accesses an account of the user and provides a random keypad to the merchant. The user uses the random keypad to enter the PIN. The processor receives touch screen information from a mobile device of the user and makes a reconstructed PIN from the random keypad and the touch screen information. The processor authorizes the purchase if the reconstructed PIN is the PIN of the user.
