  • Patent number: 7941916
Abstract: A portable memory card including a molded plastic casing formed over a memory device and other circuits mounted on a substrate such that the molding material extends over side edges of the substrate to provide accurate width and thickness dimensions. Contact pads are formed on a lower surface of the PCBA substrate, which is exposed through a bottom of the casing. The PCBA is fabricated on a substrate carrier, then positioned inside of a mold assembly. During the molding process, a rod extends from an upper portion of the mold assembly and pushes the substrate against the lower surface. A vacuum is then applied to hold the substrate against the lower surface of the mold, and the rod is subsequently withdrawn from the mold cavity during injection of the molten molding material. A single cavity mold assembly provides molding material extends over front and back edges of the memory card.

  • Publication number: 20100000655
Abstract: A memory module assembly includes two-plate heat sink attached to one or more of the integrated circuits (e.g., memory devices) of a memory module PCBA by adhesive. The adhesive is either heat-activated or heat-cured. The adhesive is applied to either the memory devices or the heat-sink plates, and then compressed between the heat-sink plates and memory module using a fixture. The fixture is then passed through an oven to activate/cure the adhesive. The two heat sink plates are then secured by a clip to form a rigid frame.

  • Publication number: 20090097215
Abstract: The present invention discloses UV-epoxy and ultrasonic case assembly methods for a USB flash drive, wherein a transparent or translucent top cover is fastened to a bottom cover containing a printed circuit board assembly via an UV-cure epoxy glue or an ultrasonic weld method. As the top cover of the USB flash drive is transparent or translucent, the USB flash drive has a see-through property and presents an aesthetic taste, which can attract the attention of consumers. Further, the method of the present invention uses less case parts and fewer steps and thus can fabricate a USB flash drive having a lower cost and a better quality at a higher throughput. Furthermore, the USB flash drive fabricated according to the method of the present invention has a better moisture resistance and a better water resistance.

  • Publication number: 20090086448
Abstract: The present invention discloses a solid state drive with a coverless casing, which comprises: a printed circuit board assembly and a coverless casing. In the resent invention, the coverless casing is free of a top cover; thereby, air circulation can be enhanced to cool down the electronic components on a printed circuit board assembly more efficiently. Further, in the present invention, the coverless casing is designed to have the printed circuit board assembly electrically connected to the chassis ground of the host system via the coverless casings; thereby, unwanted electrostatic charges can be dissipated to the chassis ground of the host system before it can damage the electronic components on the printed circuit board assembly; thus, the ESD resistance thereof is promoted.

  • Patent number: 7433196
Abstract: A card-type electronic apparatus such as an SD card, a CF card, a Memory Stick card, or a USB flash drive is formed from an upper and lower cover that are bonded together at an interior seam formed using ultrasonic joining. Lower sidewalls on the lower cover create an installation pocket for the upper cover. The installation pocket not only simplifies alignment between the upper and lower covers, but also contains any bonder material overflow that might otherwise affect the external dimensions of the apparatus housing. The lower sidewalls can completely surround the upper cover, for drop in installation. Alternatively, the lower sidewalls can partially surround the upper cover, so that the upper cover can be slid into place during assembly.

  • Publication number: 20080041966
Abstract: In an embodiment of the present invention, the hollow shell of a mid-seam memory card is composed of three, independently formed, plastic pieces—a bottom plastic piece, a top plastic piece, and a plastic lid. The plastic pieces are cross-linked using, for example, ultraviolet light (UV) activated epoxy, or ultrasonic-press methods. A printed circuit board (PCB) assembly, including memory, is positioned within the cavity of the plastic pieces, and the lid is attached. The PCB assembly can be made using chip on board (COB) or surface mount technology (SMT) components attached using ball grid array (BGA) or thin and small outline package (TSOP) connections. Various read-write/write-protect devices are possible, and can be implemented in the form of a physical feature present on one of the lateral sides of the bottom and top plastic pieces.
