  • Patent number: 9532501
Abstract: A conveyor includes a frame, at least two arms at least one of which is movably mounted to the frame, at least two rails wherein each rail is coupled to an end of one of said at least two arms, at least two belts wherein each belt is rotatably mounted on one of said at least two rails such that the belts are capable of engaging plants therebetween and moving the plants along a conveyor axis, and one or more bias members which are configured to bias said at least one movable arm toward the other one of said at least two arms. The conveyor further comprises an expanding mechanism which is configured to exert an outward force on said at least one movable arm upon engagement so that said at least one movable arm move away from another arm.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 4, 2013
Date of Patent: January 3, 2017
    Assignee: Weyerhaeuser NR Company
Inventors: Bruce Francis, William Wells, Jimmy Lee Stokes

  • Patent number: 8422629
Abstract: A method and apparatus for counting seedlings. A seedling moves through a seedling counter, which comprises a spectral energy emitter and a spectral energy detector. When the spectral energy detector detects a sufficient attenuation of the spectral energy for a sufficient amount of time, the spectral energy detector indicates the presence of a seedling. The spectral energy detector detects irregularities in the received spectral energy to indicate faults in the apparatus. In one embodiment, the seedling counter is adapted to use X-ray energy.

Date of Patent: April 16, 2013
    Assignee: Weyerhaeuser NR Company
Inventors: Jimmy Lee Stokes, Edward Joseph Kelleher, Jr.
