  • Publication number: 20080059076
Abstract: A method for classifying a plant leaf by utilizing the feature points of venation has been developed. A sample image of the venation can be extracted by utilizing a Curvature Scale Space (CSS) Corner Detection Algorithm. The sample image is treated to thicken the venation and increase the contrast through the retrieval unit prior to applying the Canny Edge Detection technology. The feature point, Branching Point and End Point is detected at each point where the calculated curvature angle is a local maximum. The distribution of the feature points of the extracted venation is calculated by applying a Parzen Window non-parametric estimation method.

  • Patent number: 6506410
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing sustained release microparticles which release a physiologically active substance for long periods of time. The sustained release microparticles are prepared through a multi-emulsion process. A drug of interest is dissolved or dispersed in each of at least two oils to give at least two primary oil phases or emulsions. Each oil phase or emulsion contains a biodegradable polymer. The least two primary oil phases or emulsions are dispersed in one aqueous phase, synchronously or in succession. From the drug-dispersed solution, the organic solvents are removed to produce microparticles. Therefore, the drugs such as leutenizing hormone releasing hormones can be continuously released in vivo for prolonged periods of time, bringing about an improvement in the therapeutic effect.

  • Patent number: 6417349
Abstract: A water-soluble extract of asiaticoside and madecassoside from Centella asiatica and an isolating method thereof. In the isolating method an aqueous alcohol containing Centella asiatica is subjected to cold-precipitation to obtain an extract. The extract in the aqueous alcohol is treated with a halogenide solvent for layer separation, and then the aqueous layer is extracted with a higher alcohol. The extract in the alcohol layer is washed first with sodium hydroxide and then with water. After being concentrated, the extract is crystallized with ethyl acetate to obtain crystals and the crystals are washed. A method for treating liver cells in a mammal includes administering to a mammal an effective amount of the extract from Centella asiatica containing asiaticoside and madecassoside.
