  • Publication number: 20080043802
Abstract: Shape-memory polymer is a new kind of material utilizing shape memorizing mechanism of elastomer of polyurethane family. These materials exhibit novel properties such as sensing (thermal), actuaton, high damping, adaptive responses, super-elasticity capability and air permeability. Recently, they are used and applied to finish textiles and garments. Although there are some characterization methods for shape memory polymers, there is currently no characterization method to evaluate the effects of shape memory fabrics. This invention provides a method to determine the shape memory coefficient of fabrics. The fabric is first deformed from the original state to a deformed state and then subjected to a switch temperature. Different parameters are measured at the original state before and after the fabric is subjected to the switch temperature to determine the shape memory coefficient.

  • Publication number: 20060286152
Abstract: This invention involves fabric-supported chitosan modified temperature responsive PNIPAAm/PU hydrogel and the use thereof in preparation of facial mask. The merit of this invention is the hydrogel formed can reversibly swell and deswell near body temperature; the incorporation of PU can suppress the syneresis of PNIPAAm at an elevated temperature; Grafting of PNIPAAm and PU onto the surface of cellulose fabrics can enhance the mechanical strength of hydrogel; Coupling of chitosan to the surface of hydrogel can not only improve the handle and skin affinity, but also render the facial mask antibacterial; The hydrogel is capable of loading a variety of nutrients(or other functional components), which can release at body temperature; the hydrogel facial mask can be reusable with repeated rinsing.

  • Patent number: 6989426
Abstract: The current major way of making nanofibers is electrospinning. However, the minimum fiber diameter is limited to be about 300–500 nm, which is not compliant with the physical definition of nano structures (in the region of 1 to 100 nm). Futher, the productivity is relatively low. This invention provides a method for manufacturing a nano-sized di-block polymer including at least a hard-segment polymer and a soft-segment polymer. First, a sample containing the hard-segment polymer, the soft-segment polymer, and a catalyst is dissolved in a first solvent. Then the dissolved sample is cast on substrate, and then the first solvent to is removed form a dried sample. Finally, the nano-sized di-block polymer is formed by crew-cutting.

  • Publication number: 20050033470
Abstract: A system and method for the three-dimensional analysis and reconstruction of the surface of a thin flexible material has a sample holder for supporting the flexible material over a curvature and a camera for capturing profile images of the surface at the curvature. The images are transferred to a computer which is programmed to extract profile height information from the images and produce three-dimensional data representing the surface of the flexible material. The profile height information is extracted by applying a histogram analysis to the images, applying a threshold, and extracting height information.

  • Patent number: 6842532
Abstract: A method of three dimensional measurement, evaluation, and grading system for fabric/textile structure/garment appearance, based an values P and Q, is carried out using a fixed digital camera positioned above a piece of the fabric, shining at least two different parallel light beams from inclined directions onto the surface of the fabric and capturing different reflected images of the surface with the camera. The captured images are analysed to derive certain parameters relevant to the appearance. In particular, values of P+Q may be used in a grading evaluation, where P and Q are summations of the surface gradients for a plurality of evenly distributed points in an x direction and in a y direction of the surface, respectively.
