  • Patent number: 6883291
Abstract: Successive cigarette packs wherein an inner envelope surrounds an array of smokers' products are advanced against successive foremost blanks of a series of blanks to be converted into outer envelopes of the respective packs. Those portions of the inner envelopes which are secured to each other by an adhesive are mechanically held against separaton prior to complete setting of the adhesive on their way toward the blanks, during entrainment and initial deformation of the blanks and, if necessary, during conversion of the blanks into outer envelopes which surround the respective inner envelopes. The blanks can consist of a light transmitting material.

  • Patent number: 6740161
Abstract: A machine for confining cigarettes or packets of cigarettes in converted blanks of paper, cardboard or the like employs a paster serving to apply adhesive to selected portions of successive blanks of a series of moving blanks. In order to compensate for wear upon and/or for misalignment of the paster and/or a back support for the blanks during application of adhesive, the back support is adjustable relative to the paster and/or vice versa in several directions. Such adjustability ensures predictable application of adhesive, such as hot melt, to predetermined portions of the blanks. The back support and/or the paster is or can be biased to a predetermined position relative to the path for the moving blanks.

  • Patent number: 6740018
Abstract: Flaps, tucks, panels, tabs, walls and analogous parts of paper or cardboard blanks which are to be converted into packets, cartons or otherwise configurated receptacles for smokers' products are bonded to each other by patches, strips or otherwise configurated films or layers of adhesive which is applied to a surface of a first part and is to bond the first part to a second part of a blank. In order to accelerate the setting of adhesive, the movement of one of the first and second parts into engagement with the other of such parts is effected by at least one ultrasonic atomizer for the adhesive. The atomizer can be stationary if the blank is advanced relative to the atomizer by a conveyor and/or vice versa.

  • Publication number: 20030230634
Abstract: Process and apparatus for cleaning at least one glue nozzle. The process includes contacting a cleaning organ to the at least one glue nozzle during normal operation of the machine. The apparatus includes a gluing device having at least one glue nozzle and at least one cleaning organ associated with the at least one glue nozzle. The at least one glue nozzle and the at least one cleaning organ are structured and arranged for movement relative to each other, such that the at least one cleaning organ is arranged to clean the at least one glue nozzle during normal operation of the machine. The instant abstract is neither intended to define the invention disclosed in this specification nor intended to limit the scope of the invention in any way.

  • Publication number: 20020185141
Abstract: A method and device is provided for processing an enveloping material for a tobacco product. An enveloping material is supplied to an operative range of at least one radiation source. A marking is created in at least one section of the enveloping material by subjecting the enveloping material to radiation emitted by the at least one radiation source. The marking has a geometric form with an outline having at least one of (a) a discontinuous slope in some sections and (b) convex or concave regions.

  • Patent number: 6363686
Abstract: Cigarette packets of a file wherein packets having satisfactory envelopes are randomly distributed among packets with defective envelopes, particularly envelopes having improperly glued and/or loose flaps, are advanced by a belt conveyor between two laterally adjustable guides. The guides bear upon the adjacent fold lines for pairs of mirror symmetrical flaps with a force which suffices to intensify the defects of envelopes with one or more non-adhering or improperly adhering flaps. This facilitates subsequent detection and segregation of packets having defective envelopes.

  • Patent number: 5983600
Abstract: A label (e.g., a revenue stamp) for the application to a closed and filled hinged-lid packet for cigarettes or the like has a first part provided with an elongated weakened portion which is to overlie the abutting sloping edges of one lateral wall of the main section and the corresponding lateral panel of the lid in the closed position of the lid, and a second part overlying portions of the rear wall of the main section and of the rear panel of the lid at opposite sides of the elongated transversely extending hinge which pivotally connects the rear panel to the rear wall. The weakened portion is formed by a perforating, scoring, piercing, material removing or other suitable implement which is adjustably mounted on a support adjacent to an arcuate path for a succession of labels at the periphery of a rotary conveyor. One side of each label is coated with an adhesive subsequent to weakening and preparatory to attachment to a hinged-lid packet.
