  • Patent number: 4204049
Abstract: An improved process for the continuous polymerization of .epsilon.-caprolactam in the presence of water as initiator in a vertical downward-flow tubular reactor, in which the .epsilon.-caprolactam is partially polymerized at elevated temperature in a first, mechanically agitated reaction zone and is further polymerized in further reaction zones to the desired degree of polymerization. Poly-.epsilon.-caprolactam is discharged in the form of a melt. The polymerization is carried out at a gauge pressure of from 0.2 to 0.9 bar, constant in all reaction zones. The temperature in the first reaction zone is maintained according to the relationship t.ltoreq.265+43 p .degree.C., where p is the numerical value of the gauge pressure in bars which relationship is subject to the condition that the temperature be within the range of 260.degree. to 295.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4098640
Abstract: The manufacture of paper-like and textile-like sheet materials by the use of fibrids which have been obtained by dissolving poly(amide-imide) resins in an organic solvent, mixing the resulting solution with a liquid which is a non-solvent for the polymer and introducing the resulting solution into a liquid precipitation medium while exposing it to shearing forces. The present invention relates to the use, for the manufacture of paper-like and textile-like sheet materials, of novel fibrids, which have been obtained by dissolving poly(amide-imide) resins in an organic solvent, mixing the resulting solution with a liquid which is a non-solvent for the polymer and introducing the resulting solution into a liquid precipitation medium while exposing it to shearing forces.

  • Patent number: 3963669
Abstract: Glass-fiber-reinforced molding compositions of reduced flammability consisting of (A) a linear saturated polyester resin, (B) from 10 to 60 per cent by weight of glass fibers and (C) from 3 to 30 per cent by weight of a flame retardant. The compositions contain from 2 to 20 per cent by weight, based on the total weight of the molding composition, of a particulate water-insoluble silicate having a bulk density of more than 100 g/l, which prevents dripping of the composition when in contact with an open flame.
