  • Patent number: 7174949
Abstract: The invention relates to a calender bowl which can be heated by means of a heating medium that is in a liquid or gaseous state of matter. The calender bowl comprises a roll body (1) that is provided with peripheral bores (4) and flange journals (2, 3) comprising supply and discharge conduits for the heating medium. Thermal insulating bushes (8) are mounted on the end areas of the peripheral bores. The heating medium flows through the peripheral bores. The aim of the invention is to adapt the heat transfer from said bores to the lateral surface of the roll body to the respective heat requirements in such a way that the harmful measured differences stay within limits so that the product is not impaired. To this end, adjusting devices are allocated to the flange journals for controllably turning and/or axially displacing the insulating bushes.

  • Patent number: 4683628
Abstract: A calender roller includes a hollow cylindrical roller body which is traversed by a stationary shaft whose outer diameter is smaller than the inner width of the roller body so that a gap is defined therebetween. The opposing end portions of the shaft are provided with rolling bearings to support the roller body and accommodate the channel system for connecting the gap with an inlet and outlet for a thermal transmitting fluid. Provided between the lateral end faces of the gap and the bearings are sealing and fitting members which are movable in axial direction to control the length of the heating zone along the roller body.

  • Patent number: 4658486
Abstract: A calender roll comprises a substantially cylindrical roll body formed with a multiplicity of angularly equispaced axial heating passages proximal to a rolling periphery of the body, and a pair of recesses opening axially outwardly at opposite ends thereof, the recesses having bottom surfaces; and respective flange journal stubs formed with end faces defining respective gaps with the bottoms of the recesses. The gaps communicate with the axial passages and at least one of the stubs is provided with an axially extending bore communicating with at least one of the gaps for passing a heating medium through the axial passages. The heating medium is distributed to the axial passages by one of the gaps and is recovered from the axial passages by the other of the gaps.
