  • Patent number: 4864919
Abstract: A narrow vent for aerating windshields of tractors, work machines, etc. The vent has a plurality of fins that spread the air stream that is directed onto a window in a fan-like manner. A portion of the fins, as side fins, are directed onto a region adjacent the vent, and the other portion of the fins, as main fins, are directed onto a region just ahead of the vent, with the angle provided by the fins corresponding approximately to a quarter circle. The air-exit plane provided by the vent extends at most insignificantly beyond the vehicle body part in which the vent is installed. All of the fins are partially recessed in the vent. The side fins are longer, and the outermost side fin is considerably longer, than the main fins.

  • Patent number: 4824892
Abstract: Benzophenone derivatives having at least one hydroxyl group in the ortho-position relative to the carbonyl group are used for stabilizing numerous substrates against the action of UV light. 1,3-bis-(4-Benzoyl-3-hydroxyphenoxy)-2-propanol is a photo-absorber containing two benzophenone groups. Particularly suitable stabilizers are esters of this substituted propanol with unsaturated carboxylic acids, for example esters of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid. These compounds are prepared by esterifying the substituted propanol with an unsaturated acid or by esterifying the substituted propanol with a saturated acid containing a reactive methylene group and subjecting the product to subsequent condensation with a keto compound. They can be polymerized and are suitable for the preparation of homopolymers and copolymers.

  • Patent number: 4821796
Abstract: A device for heating passenger compartments. A fan and a heat exchanger are provided in a housing. To achieve a compact construction and a greater air capacity, the fan is a radial-flow fan having a rectangular air outlet opening. The heat exchanger is disposed at one of the end faces of the fan, and the air inlet side of the heat exchanger is disposed at an angle to the axis of the fan. At least one air-guiding member is provided between the delivery conduit of the fan and the inlet side of the heat exchanger. The air-guiding member changes the flow of air emerging from the opening of the fan into an approximately right-angled or rectangular flow profile having a width corresponding to the width of the heat exchanger, with the flow striking the inlet side of the heat exchanger at an acute angle.

  • Patent number: 4786116
Abstract: A brake pressure control valve for regulating the braking pressure in the trailer brake system of a tractor-trailer vehicle, so as to develop the trailer brake pressure to a preset level ahead of the braking pressure in the tractor brake system during a pilot phase of brake operation. The preset level of this advance trailer brake pressure can be selected by an adjustable member that forms a part of the auxiliary valving that controls the point at which the pilot phase of operation is terminated. A limit stop is cooperatively arranged with this adjustable member in order to provide a means for limiting the point beyond which the auxiliary valving is activated, to thereby prevent the advance trailer brake pressure from exceeding a specified safe maximum value.

  • Patent number: 4775192
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for the control of brake pressure in a trailer pulled by a tractor. The apparatus includes a two-circuit controllable relay valve as the trailer control valve. The first circuit is controlled by the brake valve of the tractor with the pressure from the brake apparatus of such tractor. The second circuit can be optionally-connected to a distribution valve with a pressure medium source with a specified pressure or with atmosphere. Activation of the distribution valve is controlled so that the distribution valve connects the second circuit with the pressure medium source before or at the beginning of the activation of the first circuit. With this apparatus, the brake pressure can be increased in the brake apparatus of the trailer prior to increase of the brake pressure in the brake apparatus of the tractor. The level of brake pressure increased first in the brake unit of the trailer can be regulated by a set screw acting on the trailer control valve.

  • Patent number: 4727014
Abstract: To produce a standard calibration and test element for the calibration and testing of reading and measuring instruments for bar codes and other test scales, a copper coating is applied to a ceramic substrate in a chemically depositing copper bath and degreased, and a photoresist coating is subsequently applied which is exposed through an exposure mask. This mask carries an image of the radiation-transparent and radiation-opaque regions of a pattern to be transferred onto the surface of the ceramic substrate. After removal of the mask, the photoresist coating is developed, the uncovered zones of the copper coating are etched in a metal chloride solution, and the remaining photoresist coating is removed by stripping. The uncovered, etched zones of the copper coating are dyed matt black in a metal bath. Finally, the conductive tracks are provided with a protective coating.

  • Patent number: 4658598
Abstract: An apparatus for ventilating and air-conditioning driver compartments, cabs, or the like. A base plate is provided that closes off a space formed by the roof construction and the base plate. Disposed in this space is a partition that extends at a right angle to the base plate and is disposed transverse to the direction of flow so as to divide the entire space. The partition is associated with an evaporator, and has an aperture, the dimensions of which are adapted to the air passage cross-section of the evaporator.

  • Patent number: 4493510
Abstract: This invention relates to a brake pressure control valve and, more particularly, to a tractor-trailer control valve which includes a differential pressure surface relay piston that on one hand is acted upon by the control pressure from a control chamber and on the other hand by modulated pressure from a working chamber. The brake pressure control valve includes a first combination inlet and outlet valve which works together with the relay piston whereby the working chamber can be pressurized and vented via the first inlet and outlet valves. An auxiliary control chamber which is defined by the differential surfaces of the relay piston is connectable either to the working chamber or to the control chamber via second inlet and outlet valves. The pressure control surface of the relay piston is located opposite the working surface that is acted upon by control pressure in the control chamber. The pressure control surface can be enlarged by the pressure surface of the auxiliary control chamber.

  • Patent number: 4279003
Abstract: Contrast is increased when reproducing originals, by using a first correcting signal for continuous-tone areas in the original and a second correcting signal which affects only line elements (narrow lines) in it. To generate a picture signal and a surrounding-area signal, an opto-electronic scanning member having a picture-point aperture and a surrounding-area aperture is provided. The diameter of the picture-point aperture is approximately equal to the width of the line elements in the original which are to be corrected. The first correcting signal is obtained from the picture signal and the surrounding area signal in a difference stage, and a selectable proportion of it is superimposed on the picture signal to increase sharpness.
