  • Patent number: 6886517
Abstract: An intake head device for an internal combustion engine, which is suitable for impulse charging and/or residual exhaust gas purging, including a pressure accumulator (24) which may apply overpressure to the pressure passage via a pressure passage, so that this produces residual exhaust gas purging of the cylinder (16) when the inlet valve (18) is open and the impulse flap (21) is closed. The impulse charging is performed by a partial vacuum which is generated in the accumulator passage (22) by the air intake of the cylinder (16). The pressure accumulator arrangement of the invention has the advantage that the closing time of the flap (21) may be longer.

  • Patent number: 6453866
Abstract: An intake system for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle which includes a first unfiltered air intake (10) which is arranged at a location in the vehicle that is favorable for air intake, and a second unfiltered air intake (11) which is arranged at a location in the vehicle that is protected against road spray and splashes of water. The two unfiltered air intakes (10, 11) each open into a common line (12) which communicates with the internal combustion engine. In the first unfiltered air intake (10) there is a moisture sensor (14) which emits a signal when water enters the first unfiltered air intake (10). This signal actuates a drive member 23 which moves a flap 13 between first and second switching positions. In the first switching position, the flap 13 closes the second unfiltered air intake 11, so that no air can get into line 12 from the second unfiltered air intake 11.

  • Publication number: 20020117139
Abstract: An intake device for an internal combustion engine including a performance channel (14) and a torque channel (17) for combustion air intake, which branch off from a plenum (12). The performance channel (14) can be closed in a known manner by a rotary valve (13). A solenoid valve (18) advantageously also is arranged in the torque channel (17) for rapidly opening and closing the torque channel. The solenoid valve advantageously can be used to close the torque channel completely in the so-called performance position. This makes it possible effectively to prevent a superposition of flow effects between the two channels and thereby to increase the performance of the internal combustion engine in the so-called performance position of the two valves. At the same time, the solenoid valve (18) can be used in a known manner as an air cycle valve.
