  • Publication number: 20130347117
Abstract: Content stored on a server may be selected using a user device and enabled on a central device. The identity of the central device may be authenticated without transmitting user credentials corresponding to the user, user device, user account, etc. A central device identifier can be sent to the server via the user device. An encrypted version of the central device identifier may be returned to the user device and to the central device. The central device can send the encrypted and unencrypted version of the identifier to the server, and the server can transmit the desired content to the remote device based on a comparison of the encrypted and unencrypted identifier.

  • Publication number: 20130276028
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for controlling an electronic device including receiving a signal through a light sensor of the device, identifying with a processor of the device whether the received signal originated from a light emitter of the device, and controlling a function of the device, the function selected based on whether the signal is identified as originating from the light emitter of the device or the light emitter separate from the device.

  • Patent number: 8554249
Abstract: A location service for wireless devices is described. In embodiments, a connection identifier is received that indicates a wireless device is linked to a communication node for wireless communication. Additional wireless devices are also linked to the communication node for wireless communication, and the additional wireless devices can each identify its geographic location. Location data is received from the additional wireless devices, where the location data indicates the respective geographic locations of the additional wireless devices. A location of the communication node can be determined from the location data that is received from the additional wireless devices, and a current location can then be assigned to the wireless device based on the determined location of the communication node.

  • Patent number: 8466841
Abstract: Disclosed are a system and a device including a dipole antenna, signal conductors and a transceiver. The dipole antenna may be enclosed in a housing, and have offset signal connections for transmitting and receiving signals. The signal conductors may be communicatively connected to the offset signal connections. The transceiver may be connected to the signal conductors through a balanced communication signal path. The impedance of the dipole antenna may be substantially gamma matched to the impedance of the balanced communication signal path and an input impedance of the transceiver according to an amount of offset of the signal connections.

  • Publication number: 20120311723
Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes receiving, from a remote communication device and at a server system, information that indicates a unique identifier for a physical item that corresponds to media content, the identifier differing from identifiers for other physical items that correspond to the same content; associating the received information with an account of a first user of a hosted internet service; and subsequently providing, by the hosted internet service, content that matches the content that corresponds to the physical item, based on a determination that the received information authorizes the first user to obtain the content provided by the hosted internet service.

  • Patent number: 8296835
Abstract: A system and method are described for securing over the air communications between a service and a communication device. For example, one embodiment of a method for creating a security token on a communication device for communication between the communication device and a service includes combining a device identification of the communication device with a device capability to create a device information, the device capability known by the service. The method further includes encrypting the device information.

  • Patent number: 8135609
Abstract: A method for surveying and gathering user and status information from data processing devices coupled to a network. Data processing devices, such as cellular phones and handheld devices, may be coupled to a network manager through phone lines or RF networks. The network manager transmits survey inquiries and receives survey responses from users. The specific set of users may be selected based on user characteristics and/or device characteristics compiled by the network manger. Other status information, such as the location of each data processing device on the network and whether each data processing device on the network is active, may also be collected by the network manager. Collected information may then be distributed or made available to other data processing devices on the network.
