  • Patent number: 8260056
Abstract: The invention teaches a method of positioning a first image having a first image format into a second image comprising multiple image blocks and having a second image format. A straight boundary of at least one image block in the second image is identified. The first image is positioned into the second image by aligning an edge of the first image with the identified straight boundary. Alternatively, a block row or column of the first image can be aligned with the straight boundary but then in such a way that an edge of the first image parallel to the block row or column is aligned with a boundary of a row or column of image blocks in the second image. This image positioning reduces any bleeding artifacts and the number of bits required for representing the image during encoding.

  • Patent number: 8121421
Abstract: The invention relates to media management and combats media degradations arising when transcoding the media. The invention solves this by—generating processing hints based on the media transcoding. The hints are employed for controlling a post-transcoding processing of the transcoded media content in connection with rendering the media. The hints and this controlled processing increases the user-perceived quality when rendering the media by mitigating the media degradations caused by the transcoding. The processing hints could specify how the actual transcoding was performed by including values of the employed transcoding parameters or information of the alterations to the media caused by transcoding. Furthermore, instructions or commands for appropriate post-transcoding processing could also be processing hints according to the invention.

  • Patent number: 7848597
Abstract: In an image scaling method, an image (10) having an original row/column resolution NO is scaled into a scaled image (30) having a target row/column resolution NT. A filter set comprising ? filters is provided, where ? being equal to a quotient of the target resolution NT and a common denominator k of the original resolution NO and the target resolution NT. The common denominator k is a positive number larger than one. For at least one row/column (16/18) of image elements (12), a filtered image element (32) of the scaled image (30) is formed, for each filter in the filter set, by filtering at least one image element (12) of the at least one row/column (16/18) using the filter. This image element formation is repeated up to k times over the at least row/column (16/18) to form a scaled row/column (36/38) of image elements (32) of the scaled image (30).

  • Patent number: 6804405
Abstract: In a method and a system for encoding and transmission of still images having at least one region of interest (ROI), the ROI coefficients of an image transformed into the frequency domain, preferably using a wavelet transform are encoded so that they are transmitted first and can be decoded by a receiver without transmission of the boundary of the ROI. In a preferred embodiment the coefficients belonging to the ROI are shifted so that the minimum ROI coefficient is larger than the largest background coefficient. A receiver can then perform an opposite procedure and thereby obtain the ROI. By specifying how much the coefficients need to be shifted in order to avoid sending shape information several advantages are achieved. Thus, it is possible to avoid sending shape information and to avoid shape encoding at encoder side. Furthermore, there is no need for a shape decoder at receiver side, and there is no need for the receiver to produce the ROI mask.
