  • Patent number: 9638830
Abstract: A method for optimizing drilling operations. The method includes providing an earth model of a volume having a well, obtaining petrotechnical data about the volume while drilling the well, comparing the petrotechnical data with the earth model, updating the earth model with the petrotechnical data based on the comparison, and modifying a drilling plan of the well using the updated earth model.

  • Publication number: 20120046866
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for monitoring a hydrocarbon production system. A fiber optic sensor system is deployed into hydrocarbon production system, so as to extend to location of interest within the system, for instance, in conjunction with a downhole component or a surface component. The fiber optic system detects vibration present in the production system component, and provides a signal indicative of the vibration to a signal acquisition and analysis unit. The vibration of the production component is analyzed and a change in system flow condition/property or a change in production system component integrity is determined.

  • Patent number: 5995446
Abstract: A method is described for providing improved seismic data to a driller to indicate position and spatial extent of a drilling target which may be up to several hundreds of feet ahead of a drill bit. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of: survey design and data modeling, and definition of a drilling target point and a drilling interruption point; drilling down to a depth at which drilling will be interrupted; interruption of drilling; look-ahead borehole seismic survey (VSP); continuation of drilling; data processing and interpretation; coordinate update for optimum target intersection; and steering of drilling by borehole seismic data interpretation.
