Patent number: 8385535Abstract: A method and system for automating cross-connects for a telecommunication system comprising a network of communication lines for connecting subscriber locations to a central office exchange 112. The communication lines extend to the subscriber locations from a main distribution frame (MDF) (320) in which a plurality of standard termination blocks are housed in the MDF for terminating the lines from to the subscriber side and lines from the exchange side, which are cross-connected in the prior art with jumper wires. In an embodiment of the invention, the cross-connects are mounted on modular cross-connect boards having mechanical switching means that are inserted into or connected to the termination blocks. Automation is achieved by selectively controlling the connection state of the cross-connects via a computer terminal (350,352) located remotely from the MDF. The system is scalable to the growth in subscriber lines within the MDF by installing additional cross-connect boards.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2004Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Inventors: Jan Ulander, Johan Öberg

Patent number: 7991145Abstract: A method and system for automating a switch matrix board for cross-connecting any line in a set of input lines to any line in a set of output lines, to be used e.g. in automating cross-connects for line pairs in a central office main distribution frame (MDF) of a telecommunication network. The switch matrix (100) comprises a plurality of contact sledges (130) driven by a plurality of sledge positioning screws (120) that slidably engage a plurality of main contact pads (110) to cross-connect the lines. In an embodiment of the invention, two electric motors cooperate to position a lateral drive gear (158) to engage and rotate a selected sledge positioning screw (120), which moves the contact sledge. In another embodiment, a single electric motor operates together with a magnetic clutch assembly (180) to position the lateral drive gear to rotate the sledge positioning screw (120).Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2005Date of Patent: August 2, 2011Inventors: Sture Roos, Johan Öberg, legal representative

Publication number: 20090304175Abstract: The invention relates to a drive means that implements a single electric motor arrangement (150) for use in automating cross-connect on a switch matrix board (100). The invention is particularly applicable to switch matrix boards used in automated cross-connect systems for automating cross-connects for telephone lines. In an embodiment of the invention, the drive means comprises preferably an electric stepper motor (150) that selectively moves itself on the switch matrix board to a position to make the selected cross-connect. A magnetic clutch assembly (200,300) is coupled to the motor (150) to enable it to move laterally across the board. Once in position, the clutch assembly (200,300) enables the motor to rotatively engage with a positioning screw 120 thereby causing displacement of the corresponding contact means (130) to establish the line cross-connect.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2005Publication date: December 10, 2009Applicant: NORDIA INNOVATION ABInventors: Sture Roos, Johan Oberg

Publication number: 20080260140Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for automatically scanning for and detecting existing jumper wires or metallic cross-connects within a central office main distribution frame (MDF), street cabinet, and drop point sites. In an embodiment of the invention, the method includes connecting a plurality of modular sender and receiver units to the MDF connector blocks. Scanning signals are sent between the lines on the subscriber side and the exchange side that are received by the receivers to accurately determine which subscriber lines are cross-connected to which lines on the exchange side. In a second embodiment, the scanning system is operable in cooperation with an automated cross-connect system installed within the MDF or drop point site. The automated cross-connect system comprises modular switch matrix arrangements that enable cross-connects to be established or removed remotely from the central office.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 13, 2005Publication date: October 23, 2008Applicant: NORDIA INNOVATION ABInventors: Sture Roos, Johan Oberg
