  • Patent number: 4535208
Abstract: At least one actuating or cut-off spring is provided which is compressed in the cut-on or closed position of the switch and is coupled to an actuating linkage or rod leading to movable contacts of the switch. An arrangement is provided to variably modify the force exerted by the actuating spring on the actuating linkage in relation to the stroke. This arrangement consists of a force transmission device arranged between the actuating spring and the actuating linkage. The force transmission device permits taking into account the type of switching stroke to be executed and optimally adapting the force pattern during a switch cut-off stroke thereto. The variation of the force pattern during the switch closing or cut-on stroke is not symmetrical to that of the switch opening or cut-off stroke. The force transmission characteristics of the force transmission device are different according to the requirements of the switching stroke to be executed.

  • Patent number: 4497991
Abstract: A stationary contact element and a movable contact element are coupled to a drive unit. The movable contact element is surrounded by a co-movable blast nozzle which has an inlet flow communicating with a pump chamber surrounded by a pump cylinder. The pump cylinder is conjointly movable with the blast nozzle and the pump chamber contains an extinguishing gas which is pressurizable during a cut-off stroke. The pump chamber is bounded by the blast nozzle at one of its ends and by a spring-biased pump piston at its opposite end which is displaceable to a limited extent when the pressure in the pump chamber increases. A shock absorber is operatively associated with the spring-biased pump piston. To effectively attenuate the high-frequency pressure peaks generated by the switching arc and retroacting into the pump chamber the shock absorber and the spring biasing or supporting the pump piston are arranged such that the shock absorber only responds at the end of the stroke of the spring supporting the pump piston.

  • Patent number: 4379958
Abstract: A movable contact element is secured at the end of a thrust rod and therefore can be brought into and out of engagement with a fixed contact element. The free end of the movable contact element is surrounded by a blast nozzle which is likewise secured to the thrust rod. The inlet of the blast nozzle is operatively connected with a pump chamber containing an extinguishing gas and which can be pressurized during the course of a cut-off stroke of the gas-blast switch. This pump chamber is surrounded at its circumference by a cylinder which is displaceably guided upon a stationarily supported piston. To reduce the mass of the parts which are to be accelerated at the start of the cut-off stroke, the blast nozzle itself is constructed as a second piston situated opposite the first-mentioned piston and displaceable relative to the cylinder between two end positions.
