  • Patent number: 4793067
Abstract: An instrument for measuring the relative position of two objects comprises a scale with an incremental graduation defining a measuring direction X. A plurality of identical reference marks are positioned along the graduation, each reference mark allocated absolutely to the graduation. To determine the absolute value of a reference mark, two successive spacings between the two reference marks preceding in the measuring direction X are determined. The two spacings are determined by scanning the incremental graduation.

  • Patent number: 4559707
Abstract: A length measuring device is disclosed in which a bending rigid scale carrier is fastened to a slide piece of a machine tool at both ends by means of respective clamping shoes. A flexible measuring band is mounted on the surface of the scale carrier by means of an adhesive layer so as to be slightly shiftable in the measuring direction. The measuring band defines a graduation scanned by a scanning unit connected to the bed of the machine tool. The two ends of the measuring band are fastened by means of welding points to the ends of the scale carrier. In order to provide error correction, the end zone of the scale carrier is constructed as a stretching element formed via a joint as an integral part of the scale carrier. An adjusting screw engages directly on the scale carrier in order to adjust the longitudinal position of the stretching element in order to alter the effective length of the scale carrier and thereby adjust stretching forces applied to the measuring band to provide the desired error correction.

  • Patent number: 4419824
Abstract: A digital, bow-type measuring instrument is disclosed which provides rapid adjustment of the position of a measuring bolt with respect to an anvil over the entire measuring range. The instrument is used by rapidly translating the bolt into position such that the object being measured is positioned between the anvil and the bolt. Thereupon, the bolt is locked in position with the aid of a locking system so as to fix the measuring bolt in position with great rigidity while applying a predetermined measuring force to the bolt. In this way, an instrument is provided which makes possible precise measurements of heavy or fixed objects by means of a bow-type measuring instrument which allows rapid shifting of the measuring bolt.

  • Patent number: 4329736
Abstract: A lamp support apparatus is disclosed for mounting an incandescent lamp to an electro-optical measuring device mountable on a machine tool. This apparatus includes a spring element for resiliently mounting the lamp to the measuring device and a damping element for damping the oscillations of the lamp. The spring element and the damping element cooperate to protect the lamp from damaging oscillations such as are often encountered in a machine tool environment.
