  • Patent number: 8476391
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing anionic water-in-water polymer dispersions containing at least one finely dispersed, water-soluble and/or water-swellable polymer A and a continuous aqueous phase. This phase has a partial quantity of at least one polymeric dispersing agent B in which monomers dispersed in this aqueous phase are subjected to a radical polymerization, and after the polymerization is completed, the reaction mixture is subsequently diluted with the remaining amount of dispersing agent B. The invention also relates to the polymer dispersions obtained according to the method and to their use, particularly in the paper industry.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 7, 2005
Date of Patent: July 2, 2013
Assignee: Ashland Licensing and Intellectual Property LLC
Inventors: Susanne Bellmann, Norbert Steiner, Michael Busch, Dev Steuck, Johann Schulte, Wolfgang Woebel

  • Patent number: 5954921
Abstract: The present invention relates to agents for the pulp and/or surface sizing of paper, which comprise aqueous, solventless dispersions of cationic polymers, and to a process for sizing paper by using said agent. The sizing agents according to the present invention which can be used both in pulp and surface sizing obtain as active substance copolymers ofa) 30-70 mole-% of a monomer Iwithb) 70-30 mole-% of a monomer II,and optionallyc) 0-20 mole-% of C.sub.8 -C.sub.30 monoolefins, andd) 0-10 mole-% of further monomers copolymerizable with a), b), and optionally c), the sum of monomers a), b), c), and d) amounting to 100 mole-%.

  • Patent number: 5311613
Abstract: An optical attenuation device is described, for example for integration into optical transmission systems wherein the attenuation device is a fusion coupler (4) with an inlet (4a) and an outlet (4b), as well as at least one other inlet or outlet (4c, 4d), and the at least other inlet or outlet (4c, 4d) is closed off reflection-free (6).
