  • Patent number: 7301048
Abstract: A process for isolating vinyl acetate from the gas mixture formed in the reaction of ethylene with acetic acid and oxygen in the gas phase over catalysts comprising palladium or palladium compounds, with recirculation of the acetic-acid solution obtained in the circulating gas scrubber to the first distillation column (predewatering column).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 11, 2006
Date of Patent: November 27, 2007
    Assignee: Celanese Chemicals Europe GmbH
Inventors: Johann Stamm, Bernd Rinne, Stefan Hess, Hans-Jochen Sachs, Michael Sehr, Michael J. Bayer, Berthold Nuber, Martin Wagner
  • Patent number: 7202377
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of saturating ethylene-containing gases with acetic acid before they are fed into a vinyl acetate reactor, in which the acetic acid recovered in the vinyl acetate process is introduced into a column having a countercurrent stripping section and a rectification section and ethylene-containing gas is supplied via the bottom, wherein the liquid taken off at the bottom of the column is divided into two substreams and one substream is pumped back into the column with maintenance of a minimum pumped circulation required for sufficient saturation with acetic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 28, 2005
Date of Patent: April 10, 2007
    Assignee: Celanese Chemicals Europe GmbH

  • Patent number: 6228226
Abstract: A process for working up crude, liquid vinyl acetate feed containing acetic acid, water and ethyl acetate and optionally smaller amounts of other impurities by distillation, wherein there is introduced into the distillation column, above the feed point of the crude, liquid vinyl acetate, 0.1 to 5% by weight of water, based on the crude, liquid vinyl acetate feed, and 0.1 to 60% by weight of acetic acid, based on the crude, liquid vinyl acetate feed.

  • Patent number: 4738136
Abstract: An improved drive post and dog arrangement for transferring the motion of the piston in an oscillating piston meter from the piston to the exterior of the measuring chamber whereby the noise produced by repeated disengagement and re-engagement of the drive post and dog is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4419052
Abstract: An improved rotor for fluid flow meters having a rotor hub with a vane hub mounted thereon including spaced inner and outer cylindrical walls. These inner and outer cylindrical walls are provided with grooves and slot respectively that are radially aligned and which are inclined relative to the direction of fluid flow and provide adjacent support surfaces for a plurality of vanes. A cap element assembled on one end of the rotor hub in engagement with the outer cylindrical wall maintains the vanes in operating position and provides a means whereby the vanes can be readily removed or replaced when desired.

  • Patent number: 4301011
Abstract: A water strainer is comprised of a body which contains a central chamber with which the inlet and outlet passages communicate. Strainer grids angularly oriented with respect to each other meet to form the apex of a triangle within the central chamber adjacent the inlet passage. Debris and foreign material caught on the grid is washed by the flow of water through the strainer towards regions near the side of the interior of the body where it will not impede the flow of the mainstream of the water through the grid, or cause an unsymmetrical flow velocity profile in the water stream issuing from the strainer.
