  • Patent number: 5581988
Abstract: A yarn brake has a tubular brake housing with an upper and a lower end. A lower brake ring is connected to the lower end of the brake housing. A brake ring carrier is positioned in the housing at a distance above the lower brake ring and has a central axis about which it is rotatable. The brake ring carrier is axially slidable within the brake housing. A spring is positioned in the brake housing between the upper end and the brake ring carrier for biasing the brake ring carrier in a downward direction. An upper brake ring is connected to the brake ring carrier so as to face the lower brake ring. A brake cartridge rests between the upper and the lower brake rings. An abutment is connected to the brake housing and extends radially into the brake housing. The brake ring carrier has a plurality of support shoulders distributed over the periphery of the brake ring whereby these support shoulders are axially spaced relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 5404703
Abstract: A textile yarn processing machine has a plurality of spindle assemblies for processing of yarn. Each spindle assembly includes mechanisms for forming a balloon of yarn which rotates around a spindle assembly central axis as the yarn travels through the spindle assembly during processing and a balloon limiter device surrounding the rotating balloon of yarn and having a generally cylindrical inside surface for frictional contact with the rotating balloon of yarn to restrict the size thereof. Devices are provided which reduce frictional contact between the rotating balloon of yarn and the inside surface of the balloon limiter so as to avoid the necessity of the use of lubricators on the yarn.

  • Patent number: 4998405
Abstract: A two-for-one twisting machine, comprising twisting spindles each having a threading device arranged in the region of the spindle axis, through which a yarn is sucked in by the action of an injector and ejected by means of a compressed-air jet in upward direction through the space between the feed package pot and balloon limiter. A yarn catching ring placed on the upper annular gap of the space between the feed package pot and balloon limiter serves to catch and position the yarn, which ring has in its interior a closed annular channel with a cross section open toward the annular gap, and is connected, via a radially outward extending connecting end, with a source of underpressure. The underpressure permits the yarn to enter into the annular channel and advance to the connecting end, where it is finally positioned.

  • Patent number: 4848075
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically adjusting the tensile force ratio between axially moving outer and inner threads of cabled yarn during manufacture of such yarn in a cabling machine in which the actual tensile force ratio is measured in the region of the thread guide eye of the cabling machine, such measured tensile force ratio is compared with a desired tensile force ratio and the thread guide eye of the cabling machine is axially adjusted to provide a desired height of the thread balloon in the yarn cabling machine to provide a desired outer and inner thread tensile force ratio. Suitable apparatus, preferably in the form of a hand held instrument is provided for automatically performing such adjustment of the tensile force ratio.

  • Patent number: 4569189
Abstract: A two-for-one yarn twisting spindle assembly having no balloon limitor utilizes a ring member for receiving a generally horizontal air flow and yarn emerging from the spindle assembly during pneumatic threading and deflects the air flow and yarn generally vertically upwardly therefrom along the outside of the spindle assembly, avoiding interference with adjacent spindle assemblies without the necessity of a conventional balloon limitor, for subsequent threading operations.

  • Patent number: 4568038
Abstract: A thread brake for a two-for-one twisting spindle or twisting station having a tubular brake housing with a thread inlet opening arranged in the axis thereof and having a brake surface ring received in the brake housing and arranged at an axial distance from the thread inlet opening with an annular opening of the brake surface ring being arranged coaxially to the axis of the brake housing, and a circular brake element cooperating with the brake surface ring. The thread passes concentrically through the thread brake utilizing a by-pass passage which is arranged within the brake housing which passage extends laterally of the annular opening of the brake surface ring, and the by-pass passage is followed, in radial section, by a spirally curved slot leading to the annular opening of the brake surface ring.

  • Patent number: 4287712
Abstract: A textile yarn processing machine, such as a two-for-one twister, is provided with a pneumatically operated yarn threading mechanism for initially threading a yarn through a hollow spindle of the textile processing machine during a thread-up operation and an improved self-threading yarn brake mechanism for applying tension to the yarn as it passes through the hollow spindle during operation of the machine. The improved yarn brake mechanism is constructed to cooperate with the threading mechanism to facilitate automatic threading of the yarn through the hollow spindle and is characterized in that the compressed air which is supplied to the threading mechanism during the thread-up operation also operates to move the yarn brake mechanism from an engaged position to a released position to thus automatically provide a clear path for threading the yarn through the hollow spindle.
