  • Patent number: 6012783
Abstract: Process for temperature-dependent actuation of a supplemental pressure medium source in slippage-controlled motor vehicle braking systems. The invention pertains to a process for operating a slippage-controlled motor vehicle braking system with regulation of driving dynamics. In such systems it has thus far been proposed to turn on supplemental pressure medium sources to support the supply pump when regulation starts, in order to shorten the regulation time. Practical studies have shown that such supplemental sources are, first of all, not needed for each regulation process and, second, cause disruptive noise. The invention thus proposes to turn on the supplemental pressure medium source only in the presence of special situations, such as if the pressure medium is very viscous due to low temperatures. Advantageous refinements are concerned with determination of the temperature.

  • Patent number: 5967624
Abstract: In a method of operating an anti-lock automotive vehicle brake system for driving stability control and/or traction slip control (DSC/TCS) which includes an actuating unit that is operable by a brake pedal, and the actuating travel of the brake pedal is sensed by a pedal position sensor, a pressure value is assigned to the output signal of the pedal position sensor (11) in a control operation, the pressure value corresponding to the hydraulic pressure which prevails in the brake circuit (I of II) that is pressurized in response to the driver's wish.

  • Patent number: 5918948
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of operating an anti-lock automotive vehicle brake system for driving stability control and/or traction slip control (DSC/TCS) including a brake power booster operable irrespective of the driver's wish. According to this method, the brake power booster is actuated irrespective of the driver's wish for prefilling the vehicle wheel brakes, and further pressure increase in the vehicle wheel brakes upon completion of the prefilling action is carried out by the ABS return pump.

  • Patent number: 5862503
Abstract: Apparatus for improving the driving behavior of a vehicle is provided. The vehicle has front and rear axles, each having a plurality of wheels. Each wheel-has a brake. Sensor are provided for measuring the rotational speed of each wheel, the vehicle yaw rate and the vehicle lateral acceleration. An anti-lock braking system provides first preset pressure values for controlling each brake, to prevent the wheels from locking during braking. A traction slip control system provides second preset pressure values for controlling each brake, to prevent the wheels from slipping during acceleration. A brake effort proportioning system provides third preset pressure values for distributing braking pressure between the wheels of the front axle and the wheels of the rear axle. A yawing moment controller provides fourth preset pressure values used to control each brake during cornering, to avoid application to the vehicle of an unbalanced moment which would cause the vehicle to understeer or oversteer.

  • Patent number: 5769509
Abstract: A brake unit for motor vehicles with electric drive with a hydraulic pressure transducer and hydraulic friction brakes to increase the brake effect applied by the electric drive motor. The cooperation of the electric drive motor with the hydraulic friction brakes is controlled by an electronic controller.

  • Patent number: 5710704
Abstract: A system for improving the driving stability of a vehicle during travel through a curve is provided. The system includes a sensor for measuring the actual yaw rate of the vehicle, and a facility for calculating a desired yaw rate. The difference between the desired yaw rate and the measured yaw rate is determined. A situation recognition facility determines whether the vehicle is travelling in a curve, and whether the vehicle is travelling in reverse. A logic initiates a corrective yawing moment if the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold value and the vehicle is not traveling in reverse.

  • Patent number: 5671143
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a control circuit for controlling the yawing moment of a vehicle. It is desirable in some special cases to limit the control behavior of this control circuit. The current estimation of the coefficient of friction is used for this purpose according to the present invention; this estimation leads to the determination of a maximum coefficient of friction, which is used to determine a maximum allowable yaw acceleration. The additional torque used to control the vehicle stability is influenced based on the yaw rate.
