Abstract: A method and an apparatus for providing Instant Messaging (IM) capability in digital telephone sets is disclosed. The invention allows telephone users to compose and display Instant Messages and to exchange contact lists with other telephone users or users of an Internet-based messaging system. The method of the invention in one embodiment allows digital telephones, with limited keys and display space, to support the full functionality of Instant Messaging. Quick compose and quick reply mechanisms allow sending common messages with minimum keypad button pushes. The invention also allows Computer Supported Telephony Application (CSTA) based messages to interface with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) messages, thus permitting IM exchanges between digital telephone set users and Window Messenger clients.

Abstract: A communications network, method and computer program product for managing network calls. Calls between mobile stations at base transceiver stations (BTS), each connected to a different base station controller (BSC) in a different switching sub-domain are passed between BSCs over a dedicated line between endpoints. Call linkage for the calls pass in call context objects separate from the calls and need not pass in a signaling channel with the calls.

Abstract: A real-time communications system of networked communications devices, method and program product for operating such a system. A screensaver resides on at least one of the communications devices, that selectively displays status information on a corresponding identified user. Presence and availability information about the particular system user is stored on a central storage and provided to the screensaver for display. Information on the screensaver apprises viewers of current user presence and availability status.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for using speech to annotate text messages over a voice connection. The present invention allows the insertion of a plurality of annotations in the message, while the message is being rendered vocally using a Text-to-Speech (TTs) conversion. The invention interactively integrates TTS conversion, Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system and the execution of office document applications within the Unified Messaging System.

Abstract: A conference call arrangement, conferencing device, conference unit and a method of managing conference calls. The conferencing device may be a speakerphone with a speak up indicator. Whenever a conference call attendee does not speak loudly enough for remote participants, the conference unit sends a speak up indication to a corresponding conferencing device.
