  • Publication number: 20240167122
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns using microstructural engineering techniques to remove or reduce impurity elements from molten aluminum alloys, such as scrap. The impurities are removed by cooling molten aluminum, resulting in the formation of impurity-rich intermetallic compounds containing only one or more impurity elements as solid inclusions. Subsequent removal of impurity-rich intermetallic sediments by decantation, centrifuge, and filtration techniques can provide an economical method for removing the desired amount of impurities to meet the product specifications.

  • Patent number: 4316561
Abstract: Apparatus is described for attaching a shroud tube to the pour nozzle of a sliding gate valve, or the like, from a remote position. The apparatus is also effective to impart compound movement to the shroud tube for inserting the end of the tube into the opening in a tundish cover. Apparatus according to the invention is characterized by simplicity of design, low capital cost and ease of manipulation.

  • Patent number: 4213829
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved hood for transfer of coke which prevents binding of the retractable section when it is raised or lowered. The outer surface of the fixed hood section is of circular arc-shape and has at least one track extending therealong. A wheel assembly on the retractable section engages the track so as to guide the retractable section concentrically over the fixed section and prevent binding. Preferably the wheel assembly is outboard of the upper edge of the retractable section. A device is then provided to exert force on the wheel assembly toward the track so as to retain contact between the wheel and track as the retractable section is raised.
