  • Patent number: 6223986
Abstract: A data reading systems including an aiming aid system which creates a highly visible target or image in the scan volume at a preferred location for placement of the article to be scanned. In a preferred application, an overhead bar code scanner employs a rotating polygon mirror which scans one or more laser beams off pattern mirrors creating a complex pattern of scan lines down into the scan volume whereby the aiming aid is created by directing a laser beam onto a scanning mirror positioned on top of the polygon mirror generally along the rotational axis of the polygon mirror and then directing that beam out into the scan volume in the desired pattern, such as a circular aiming aid. Alternately, the aiming aid may be a multi-dimensional graphical image formed by holographic or diffractive optics.

  • Patent number: 6117006
Abstract: Adjustment of the sieve of a combine harvester is effected by an adjustment apparatus attached to the side wall of the combine on the outside surface. The adjustment apparatus comprises an angle bracket having a vertical portion screwed to the side wall and a generally horizontal plate. The lever is pivotally mounted to pivot in a plane parallel to the horizontal plate and is maintained in place by a top strap having an arcuate series of holes for pinning the lever at a selected position. A rod extends from the end of the lever through a slot in the side wall of the combine to an adjustment arm extending rearwardly from the sieve. The adjustment position of the arm can therefore be locked in place and is visible from the outside of the combine.

  • Patent number: 5778348
Abstract: A method is provided for activating a rating capability in a microprocessor-based parcel manifest system. The method includes storing in the system's memory a number of rate tables, each containing data for calculating parcel shipment charges, and disabling access to one or more of the rate table. A rate activation request, which includes information that identifies the system and the rate table to be activated, is transmitted to a data center. In response to the request, an activation code is received from the data center. Access to the rate table is activated by entering the received code into the system.Activation of a rate table may be temporary and subject to a time deadline.

  • Patent number: 4921107
Abstract: A semi-automatic mail sortation system. The system includes an input for input of information to a processor, and a display and sorting system controlled by the processor. The sortation system also includes a data base of names and associated mail drops accessed through the processor. In operation a mail piece is presented to an operator who inputs the first few letters of the addressee's name and the processor accesses the data base to display a set of records consistent with the input. The operator then selects a record and the processor controls the sorting system to sort the mail piece in accordance with the mail drop in the selected record. If the addressee's name is not displayed at first the operator may use conventional display controls to search further in the data base.
